Binnacle sighed contently as he caught sight of the Rainbow River. Finally, some clean water! After all that sewer water, it did him good to see something sanitary to swim in. He leaped in and spluttered to the top. He had forgotten that he was no longer a seapony, at least for the time being. Until nighttime, he was a normal earthling stallion. He jumped to the river's bank and shook his dripping mane. Calmly he looked around to see if anyone had seen him.

Spookytale looked up from where she'd been reading a ghost story that looked very similar to the orange book on her cutie mark. She had a big weakness for that sort of story, no surprises there. This spot had looked plenty secluded. Though she appreciated all the help she, along with many other ponies that had lost their homes, had gotten she still felt awkward and in the way when she was around anyone that had helped her out. She still felt guilty about not being more helpful when the town REALLY needed it.
"ERm...well, hello! I once read that there are very angry bees that can chase you around and you'll have to jump in the water so that they don't get anger all over you. Are there bees?"
Spookytale realized too late that there were not, and she wrinkled her violet-grey nose and then tried to look suave and...normal.
"Yes, well, then I suppose it's rude for me to be all dry, and stuff,so I'll just be off, you know, like a zombie after brains, no, wait, like, um, a bee, no! oh, darn, bye now."

Binnacle stared at the mare with interest. "Well, I would have liked you to stay and talk, but if you're sure you have to go..." he trailed off, shaking his forelock away from his face. He breathed in the clean air deeply. After all those years of travelling through Ponyville by way of the sewage pipes, he could finally roam free. He realized how strange he probably seemed to this beautiful mare and quickly returned to his normal state.

The elegant river dolphin swam swiftly through the water, breaking the stillness in the River. Her blue teardrop glinted fircely in the autumn sun, but she still felt sorrow for her master, Lotus, Water Goddess.

Binnacle was not bothered by the chill of the oncoming winter in the air. He took a quick glance at the dolphin, deciding if he should say hello. The dolphin didn't seem to be in a terrific mood, though he couldn't blame her. After all that had happened in Ponyville, there wasn't much to be happy about, save the holiday season.

"Well hello," Binnacle said to the dolphin. He wondered if she was really a dolphin at all. So many ponies could transform themselves these days, or other things could transform themselves into ponies, as he could.

The dolphin rose her head out of the water, returning the greeting. She dipped her snout into the water, sending little sprinkles of water flying.

Spookytale was about to appologize for being a bother, but then she spottes the dolphin and gasped. She'd never seen a real live dolphin before, not in the wild.
"Well, holy smokes."

Binnacle smiled at the look on Spookytale's face. He was about to say that he had seen plenty of dolphins back when he lived in the ocean, but caught himself. He couldn't let anyone know that he was a seapony. He nodded his head as he watched the dolphin return his greeting, inderstanding perfectly. It felt like home to him as he was sprayed lightly by little beads of glimmering water. He was still damp, but didn't bother to shake himself as he sat in the glowing warm sunlight. He wondered if he could possibly ask the dolphin its name, as it seemed to understand when he spoke to her. "Well what's your name?" he asked, hoping the mare near him wouldn't think he was crazy.

Spookytale took a seat near Binnacle, perfectly happy to have a sane conversation with a dolphin and soggy pony friends.
"Oh you know, it could be a ghost dolphin. Or a zombie dolphin. With pointy teeth. If it is her name is probably Bitey."

Spookytale settled down, enjoying the sight, when she got struck by a thought. "Hey kiddo, do you think Bitey would let you swim with her?"

Binnacle stifled a laugh at the thought of the dolphin being named Bitey. "I don't believe I've ever heard of a zombie dolphin before. It could happen though, I guess," he said, humouring Spookytale's notion. Considering the mare's other question he said, "She doesn't look like a territorial sort of river dolphin, so I guess not," he said, choosing his words carefully so as not to let anything spill about his secret. A breeze blew past, an dhe suddenly became aware of how cold it was. He thought himself stupid as he thought this, for what else could it be in winter? This much was obvious: in the water the temperature didn't normally used to affect him, but on land the temperature changed drastically during the winter.

Spookytale hrrrrmmmmed and watched her breath curl about smokily.
"Sorry, I suppose for some reason I thought the temperature didn't affect you. Though you were dripping we before, should we go find someplace warm? I mean like a building, not like that hero that went into the underworld and all."

"Yeh, it's been getting cold out lately," Binnacle said, watching the vapor from his breath collect into a small cloud. Since he was new to Ponyville above, he had no idea where they might go, but he pretended he was in the know.

"Hey, wanna stop by Cotton Candy Cafe?" he asked Spookytale, the Cotton Candy Cafe the only place he had heard of in Ponyville Above. Maybe they could get something warm to drink.
