Stellaluna was outside hanging up a banner over the front door of Tails n' Whiskers. It read "Grand Opening" for today was the day she would open the pet shop of her dreams.
A bird was perched on her shoulder. The poor creature fluttered it's wings timidly each time Stella wobbled back and forth on the ladder. Finally, CRASH! Both the ladder and the green mare were on the ground in a tangled-up mess. She was very clumsy. It was almost inconceivable how she could care for so many animals and keep the store clean, let alone knocking over cages and whatnot. Yet still she managed.
The bird, remaining floating in the air above her finished the job by attaching the last corner of the banner to the wall. It was finished.
Stella stood up and brushed herself off with a smile. No matter how bad, nothing today could sway her from delight for this was her day. The day she finally opened up a shop of her own.
She put the ladder away in the shed and returned to the shop front, marveling at the banner for a moment. She wished Donner was here for this, but he was off looking for a apartment. After all, he couldn't stay with Tristan forever. But of all places, why did he have to pick other towns to look at apartments? Why couldn't he just stay here? It would not be long until he moved away for good. To that thought, Stella sighed unhappily. The bird returned to her shoulder and a smile returned. "What am I doin' standing around for?" She asked the bird, well aware it could not respond. "There's work to be done."
She walked inside with the bird and let it return to it's perch in the far corner of the room.
"Hmm...Maybe I ordered more animals then I needed." She said looking around the room.
Oh, but did she ever! Every animal one could possible think of to keep as a pet was there in the room.
There were…
Dogs Cats Rabbits Chinchillas Fish Lizards Frogs Parrots Birds Bats Mice Rats Gerbils Hamsters Guinea Pigs Ferrets Skunks (They’re said to make good pets.) Hedgehogs And small monkeys.
And much to Stella’s fear were also… Snakes Tarantulas Scorpions And one vampire bat she’d ordered for Spookytale in case she was interested.
Stella looked around and nodded to herself approvingly with a grin. She had done a fine job setting the place up. She began to busy herself with cleaning the hamsters’ cages while she waited for her first customer to arrive.

((Er - ignore the other posts. I post here instead.)) The door opened and two crystal blue eyes peeked into the building. With echoing steps, Moondust went in. A mystic voice was heard, soundning like a far away echo. "Hello? Anybody here?" She fluttered her shimmering wings, looking around.

Stella had finnished with the hampster cages and was now moving wooden crates into the back room, since they were just getting in the way.
She had just dropped one on her foot when she heard a soft echoing voice. "Oh my Rainbows, my first customer!" Forgetting the pain she ran over to the customer like a racehorse. She was so excited.
She cleared her voice and tried to sound very adult and professional. "Welcome to Tails N' Whiskers! How can I help you?"

Moondust smiled as a green pony appeard. "Er - well, I´d like to look for a animal ..." She shrugged at herself when she realised that that was quite obvious. "Something cuddly with fur," she continued, looking around.

"Hmmm..a fuzzy one, eh?" Stella said looking around the room with a questioning visage.
"Well," She continued in a more upbeat tone as she turned back to the mare. "This might help you decide. How much fur do you want it to have? More fur equals more grooming and shedding, you know. And what are your living conditions? Small area or large?"

"I live in a quite small cottage. It does´nt have to have much fur, either, but I´m not reallty looking for a turtle or any other fur-less animal." The hooded flutter fluttered her wings sightly. "Oh, and it should´nt be caged." The small mare flicked her tail.

Stella nodded and walked over to an area where some cats and kittens were caged. "I suggest a cat if you don't have much time on your hands. They're very affectionate but they're just as well off on thier own. If your out for long periods of time, a cat would be the best choice. I wouldn't suggest a dog, since they need way more attention and more space than a small cottage."
She walked over to the next set of cages where small fluffy weasel-like animals were playing. "But if you spend more time at home, a ferret would be a good choice. They're really smart and alot of fun. They like to interact with you and require alot of attention." She looked back at the mare with a smile. "So what'll it be? It's no rush. Picking out a pet for life is a hard decision, I know."

"Well," said Moondust with another smile. "I might have a look at the cats." She peeked into the cage. "Aww, they´re abdorable. Wich of them are female?"

Thank goodness she went for the cats. They were the most stable and practical for new pet owners, after all.
She pointed to different cats in no particular order. "The white one with the pick nose...the silver tabby over there... that one there is female. She a special breed that's called Abassinian. But she's not for sale." She continued. Pointing to a few more. "That black one with the white markings...and I belive that long haired orange one is too." She looked at Whisperwind to see if any of that needed repeating.

Moondust tried to guess wich of the black with white markings and white that was most playful. "I see ... how old are they, then?" The white cat peeked back on the flutter and made a sound. The ears of black was pointed forward in intrest, but remained lying.

Breezie trotted in happily, with Wing Song trailing behind. To the Princess's disapproval, Breezie went straight for the tarantula tank. "I'll take one of these!" Wing Song gasped. "She most certainly will not!" Turning to Breezie she added,"Not while you're rooming with me!" Breezie drooped slightly, then skipped across the shop when something else caught her eye. " Tribbles!," she cried, "Oh, Wing Song! We can get a tribble, can't we?" *OoC: No, I'm not implying that ponies watch Star Trek. She could have picked up the term anywhere... * Wing Song rolled her eyes. "They're guinea pigs, Breezie." She then looked into the cage and smiled. "I guess I'd like a guinea pig, but I don't know much about them," she said hesitantly.

"I see ... how old are they, then?"
"The small white one is only 2 months. Isn't she the cutest little thing? The silver tabby is an adult. Probably around a year and a half."
Stellaluna nearly jumped out of her skin when the door flung open loudly and the jingle bell abve the door sounded the arrival.
"Uhh...excuse me.." She said to Whisper Wind. "I'll be right back."
She turned and trotted over to the two mares. Thank goodness Wing Song had diverted the other mare from the tarantulas. Stella wasn't about to stick a hoof in those cages! Not unless it was absolutely necessary.
"Oh, Wing Song! We can get a tribble, can't we?"
"Well it looks like we have a Trekkie in the house." Stella laughed.
"They're guinea pigs, Breezie. I guess I'd like a guinea pig, but I don't know much about them,"
"She's right." Stella said, looking at Breezie with a smile. "They are called Guinea Pigs since the orringinated in the isalnd of New Guinea. They're cute little things. The great thing about them is they don't require much attention." She began to explain, "All you need to do is fill thier food dish and water bottle once a day and replace thier bedding at the bottom of the cage at least once a week."

The door flew open and green mare excused herself. She trotted over to the mares by the Guinea Pigs and left Moondust by the cage. Two months. The little kitten was so cute, and when Moondust petted it the best she could trough the bars, it started to purr loudly. Moondust peeked over to the owner. By that moment, the queen knew wich kitten to choose. "Hi, my little friend. Don´t be afraid, I won´t harm you ..." The snow-white kitten absolutely did´nt seem to fear her. It closed its eyes and continued its purring. "Snowball," said the flutter queen outloud. "How´d you like that?" The little cat did´nt disagree. It looked up at the pony and Moondust could feel her soft fur.

Breezie grinned, peering into the cage. "How much for a guinea pig?" Wing Song sighed at this. She knew that she would end up paying whatever fee, not to mention all the accessories Breezie would no-doubt want to buy for the new pet. Still, she couldn't help but be excited at the concept of owning one of the charming little critters. She rolled her eyes, and directed a question at Breezie as much as Stellaluna. "How much for the cage? And the food, and the vitamin supplements, and the toys, and the vaccinations, and hundreds of other things we will no doubt need...?" She worried afterward that she had offended Stella, but really was just trying to critisize Breezie's typical lack of thinking things through. "Oh...,"Breezie sighed, before perking up shortly after. "Well, think of how insignificant that will all seem compared to the years of love and enjoyment, not to mention the life lessons, we will gain from pet ownership!" Breezie gave a superior look, knowing she had Wing Song beat. Wing Song just stared, dumbfounded. Her years of practicing diplomatic negotiation had just proved worthless thanks to her 13-year-old roommate. She sighed once more in resignation. "...Right, then."

"Well, think of how insignificant that will all seem compared to the years of love and enjoyment, not to mention the life lessons, we will gain from pet ownership!"
"You're exactly right!" Stella pointed out with a smile. "She's a smart girl." She metioned to the mother smugly.
"And don't worry about vaccinations. They're all taken care of. You won't have to worry about vitamin supliments either because we sell a type of food that has them mixed in. So it's kind of like a two for one deal. We also have a special offer for this weeks grand opening. When you buy a pet, you get a free pet toy. I've found that the guinea pigs are quite attracted to the plastic balls with the bells inside." She held one out in front of Wing Song.
"So really, the only thing you'll need to pay for is the ginea pig, the cage and the food."
