Silverfall's Background
Silverfall is a Darklander, a pony from the mysterious Darklands--an island chain on the Night Sea--where the sun never rises and the stars are always shining. Not much is known about her parents or where she was born, or how as a very young pony she ended up in the Darklands, but some suspect that she was spirited her away from her homeland. She grew up on the main island, in the Smoking Mountains, where she was taken in by the wild chinchillas. The Chinchilla King gave her the ability to communicate with all animals.
By the time she was in her mid-teens, Silverfall had developed superior defensive and combative skills that she had learned in order to survive in the Darklands. She befriended a dog, which she called Bandit, and developed a taste for meat. Together they hunted and fished, but they would only kill the rival species of her chinchilla family and never the chinchillas themselves. She was like a phantom. Other Darklanders called her the Silver Mare. There came a time when they feared to enter her territory and no one dared to hunt the chinchillas which she fiercely protected.
No one, that is, except the thief Visioso. After a brief fight that ended in a stalemate between them, Visi invited Silverfall to join him and his merry band, which included a stubby yellow and gold pinto pegasus named Fernando and a white and dark red splotchy mare named Nevisangui. Curiousity overcame her and Silverfall agreed. The four companions roamed the lands in search of treasure and mischief. They were known as the Backwater Quad.
On a dark, stormy night, Silverfall was visited by the Dark Mystic, the mysterious ruler of the Darklands who was rarely seen except in swift shadows across the plains. The Mystic claimed that he had been watching Silverfall for many years, marking her progress, and invited her to be his apprentice. He would train her in the ways of the deep magic and she would take the Darkling throne when at last he retired.
Silverfall agreed. The Mystic began to teach her how to use her unknown gifts, including the ability to generate power from natural and magical storms. She learned how to sense deep magic and the magic of the other elementals (fire, water, earth, and wind). She also learned herbcraft and how to create many different kinds of medicine from the plants of the world.
Silverfall kept her service to the Mystic a secret at first. When Visioso decided they should travel to the mainland, Silverfall was uncertain if she should go. But the Mystic gave her permission to go, to explore the world and learn from it. She was to check in with him once a month, to reveil what she had learned. She did this by speaking to him through fire.
The Backwater Quad found the mainland to be an even more delightful place to cause mischief and treasure-hunt. Silverfall had taken an affectionate and playful liking to Visioso. She enjoyed leading him on, but when they arrived in Dream Valley, she met another stallion named Wolfbadger. Drawn to this new stallion, she then denied Visioso's ardant advances, causing Visioso to take a violent turn. She then ran away with Wolfbadger and they lived in the wilds for many months.
There then came a day when she discovered she was pregnant and her vow to the Mystic came rushing back. What was she doing running around with Wolfbadger? How would she explain herself to her master? She left Dream Valley without saying good-bye to Wolfbadger. By the time he realized she was gone, she was on a boat going back to the Darklands. He had no idea where to find her, but despite that searched for many months.
When Silverfall returned to the Darklands, she faced her master's wrath. It was decided she would carry the foal to birth. The Mystic enlisted Visioso, Fernando, and Neve to guard and protect Silverfall while she was vulnerable. Visioso was not happy, but agreed out of respect for the Mystic.
When the foal was born, the Mystic wiped Silverfall's memory of the event at her request and took the foal to Wolfbadger with the news that Silverfall had died in foalbirth. Wolfbadger took the foal and raised her in Dream Valley.
And so it was that Silverfall learned to master her emotions by hiding them deep down inside and began to treat the world with a sense of indifference. She would continue to travel to and from the mainland, but almost always by herself. There she would continue her training, as instructed by the Mystic.
Until at last she was instructed to go to a place called Ponyville, to learn about the ponies there...
Silverfall’s History in the Game
Silverfall came to Ponyville with her faithful dog Bandit. Her guise was to open a pet shop and live in Ponyville undisturbed a little while while she observed the ponies living there, but that plan went completely awry the very first day she showed up.
On her journey into Ponyville, Silverfall felt the coming of a storm, as she normally did when a storm was brewing, but she also felt a dark presence within the storm. Unable to identify it clearly, she met up with other ponies on the road and decided to head into town to warn the mayor of the weather.
Unable to locate the mayor in time, Silverfall rejoined her new companions and led them into the mountains. There she talked the storm into submitting to her will and guided it around Ponyville, so that the town would not be damaged. Something was trapped inside the storm and Silverfall forced it to relinquish. It was a hot air balloon and out popped the pony Razzaroo.
Making this new aquaintance, Silverfall then took chase after the mysterious storm (with Razz in tow). She wanted to learn more about the dark presence in the storm, but could not keep up with it. This led instead to a meeting with the Dark Mystic, who warned Silverfall of an upcoming danger to Ponyville.
Returning to Ponyville, Silverfall and Razz began looking for strange and unusual things. For a few days, everything seemed fine, but then they met a newcomer named Glayse. Silverfall thought there was something very strange about him. And that's when terrible things began happening.
They soon discovered it was a group of dark ponies that had come to terrorize Ponyville. Silverfall recognized them as pieces of the Dark Rainbow. She agreed to help Razzaroo in order to protect the town, because he had been chosen by the Rainbow of Light to be one of the town's champions. Razz was given the power of the telepathy, but he lacked the confidence and skill to be a hero. Out of a deep sense of friendship, such as she had not felt in a very long time, Silverfall offered up her spirit to him, so that he might gain from her experience and ability. Only Razz didn't know she had done this.
After the Dark Rainbow was defeated, Glayse and the other dark ponies were bound and trapped and taken to the Darklands where they were put in the dungeon of the Mystic's castle. The Mystic collected Silverfall's spirit right out of Razz's nostrils, much to Razz's surprise.
The Mystic took Silverfall's spirit to Fewa, where she was rejoined with her physical body. It took a while for her to remember who she was and why she was in Fewa. Unfortunately, she stumbled upon the memories that had once been hidden from her and only then remembered that she had once had a daughter. She did not remember the circumstances, so did not undertand why her daughter had been taken and only became very angry because she thought the Mystic had stolen her daughter away. Feeling betrayed, she ran away.
Silverfall came back to Ponyville, where in her frenzied, emotional state, she made a bargain with the dark god Setekh. She agreed to be his mage and offered him her power, in return that he might track down her daughter and return her. But Setekh continued to manipulate Silverfall by threatening to harm her daughter, saying he was holding her in a hidden place, and that unless Silverfall agreed to deliver all the power of the Darklands to him, he would kill her. Feeling she had no choice but do do whatever he asked, Silverfall continued to feed her power into Setekh to save her daughter and helped to free Glayse's spirit from the dungeon where he had been kept.
Meanwhile Aellesar had returned to Ponyville. When he learned of her dark bargain, he was convinced that Setekh was lying about her daughter, that he'd neverfound her because he never knew where to look. Convinced that Setekh's hold over Silverfall could be broken if he could get her to see through his lies and trickery, Aellesar went to Dream Valley in search.
Silverfall's daughter was by then in her mid-teens and known by the name Atarluna. Because there was no time for explanations, Aellesar kidnapped Atarluna in secret and took the time to explain the situation to her only after they were on the road to Ponyville. Stunned that her mother was alive, Atarluna felt a strong desire to see her, but was very confused, too. Atarluna's father, Wolfbadger, was left behind in Dream Valley because he still didn't know that Silverfall was alive and Aellesar didn't think this would be a good time to try and explain why.
When Silverfall realized that her daughter was alive and safe with Aellesar, she withdrew her power from Setekh. Without that power, the dark god was weak enough that he could be brought down, at least temporarily as his body was split into 50 little tiny Sets and then scattered all over the world.
Knowing that the residents of Ponyville would never take kindly to her again for the destruction she had caused, Silverfall made her escape with Aellesar and Atarluna. She stayed only long enough to share words with Razzaroo and then began the long journey home to the Darklands. She hasn't been seen in Ponyville since that day. She left behind her dog with the command that he should stay and protect Razz and his family.
