Lain smiled warmly, "not to worry, it will become second nature quickly. Especially if you learn to do it without spells and such." He thought for a moment - it had been so long since he'd had to actually teach a new mage. It was hard to remember the technique he had used.
Looking over at the unicorn he got an idea. "You can wink right?" most of the horned ones could, including Lian himself. "Let me see you wink - not far, just a couple feet away if you could."
If she could wink then it would be much easier to teach her to concentrate her other powers.

"Erm, wink?" Moony said slowly, frowning for a moment. Yeah she can wink with her eye... no he must be talking about the magic winking sort. How one can disappear and appear else where...
"Umm... I don't know. I really haven't tried it before to be honest." She said, feeling kind of stupid. "Do you want me to give it a try though?"

Lian smiled agian, "yes, why don't you? Unicorns are supposed to be naturals at it. Here, let me show you."
His antlers glowed a steady bright blue for a moment and then he disappeared, reappearing on the other side of Moony in but an instant. He tapped her on the shoulder with a bright grin.
"It helps the first few times to close your eyes - that way you don't get sea-sick so to speak."

"OooOoo... wow... ok." Moony nodded, smiling. So unicorns are apparently natural at it; it comforted her to know that... to a point. It didn't look too difficult.
She closed her eyes tight and concentrated hard on well a particular spot that was not the spot she was standing on. Well, that's what she thought she should do. She felt like she was searching herself, looking for that unicorn winking power she surposedly had.
Then she felt it; the sudden sensation of being swept of her hooves for a brief moment and then feeling the earth beneathe them once more. She opened her eyes grinning, feeling a bit light headed.
"Did I do it right?" She asked beaming. All Lian would have seen was that her horn shimmered a faint blue colour for a moment and then the pearly white unicorn disappeared from where she was before, only to reappear to where she was standing now; that was two metres away from her last postion. She frowned noticing this. "I'm going to need to do a bit more practice if I want to gain more distance huh?"

Lian smiled brightly and clapped his front hooves together. "Great! You did perfectly!" He much prefered just flying, but in some situations winking could be a very big help.
"Practice, as always, makes perfect. But we can always play a game or two to get some practice. Its the best way to learn in my opinion."
Walking back over to where she was now standing his smile remained. "We will work on your winking ability first, once you have that down it will be much easier to teach you other abilities. But first, have you had experiance before with great power? Not with winking obviously, but with anything else? Is there anything you are especially good at? We need to hone your powers in a certain direction, prune them if you will, for them to grow to their greatest potential."

Moony beamed again at the praise.
"Experiences with great powers?" She repeated thoughfully. "Well, sometime I am able to get the clouds to move around or alter the weather, but those where on very rare ocassions. Apparantly, I am kind of linked to air spirits or something like that anyway. Also I can do something with reading dreams, though not very well, and I can do a bit of mind messaging or something like that. You know when someone speaks to you in thought, and you reply. I have done that before. But the weather and dreams are my most important. I think that is it..." She finished off.

"Perfect," Lian smiled, "I happen to be a weather god myself. Wind and clouds and such are my specialty." He paused for a moment, "I am also quite familiar with telepathy, as are all of the old gods. Dreams not really my thing, but I am sure that together we can figure that part out."
He put an arm around her shoulder in a friendly fashion. "Moon Crystal my dear, I do belive this will be the best for us both."
He was still curious about the light orange aura he could see about her, like the shadow of some past power, but as she had not mentioned it, he wasn't going to push.

Moony did not forget the orange stripe of the rainbow of light. She held the memory close to her heart, but she did not feel like speaking about it openly to Lian. Yes sometimes she was open with a few things, but this was very speical to her, and she would rather keep it quiet for now. She didn't think it would mean much for her studies... yet...
"Moon Crystal my dear, I do belive this will be the best for us both."
Moony grinned with a smile. "I believe so too." Wow, she never thought she would find a teacher, and a weather god at that... wait a moment...
"Did you say God?" Moony repeated somewhat surprised and a bit stupidly.

"Did you say God?"
"Ahh yes, sorry to spring that on you in such a fashion." He removed his hoof from around her shoulders and rubbed the two together, as if dusting them off. It was a silly move, since they were only going right back into the dirt.
"I am one of nine old gods that have come back for an unknown reason to Ponyville. I also have reason to belive there is a tenth god about, and that is not a good thing, for it could upset the balance between the powers of dark and the powers of light." He paused for a moment as he considered how to continue.
"I am a Shadow God, one that walks the line between dark and light and changes to keep the balance of both intact. There cannot always be evil in the world, and there cannot always be good, as I am sure you know already. I, along with Tyr and Ocasta, am here as a buffer between the dark and light gods that have begun arriving in this town. I am not sure what is so special about this town that they would come here instead of somewhere else, but I have a feeling it is the balance between the old and the new that brings them to this place, and I also get the distinct feeling that we are not the first to come." He looked at her for confirmation. If she didn't eventually tell him he would find someone who would.

After hearing what Lian had to say, the first thing she said was "eh?". It took her but a moment to undertand what he was going on about.
"So what you are saying is that there are gods running around town, one third of them good, the other third of them bad and the remaining inbetween." She said trying to sum it up in her mind and understand it.
"Not the first to come? You got that right." She said happily. "About a year ago these seven ponies known as the... the... what where they again? Ooo Ooo Ooo! The Rainbow of Darkness... stripes... well something like that anyway. These seven terrors each, one a different colour of the rainbow, started to cause havoc in town-" -Moony seemed to have realised what she had said- "But everthing turned out good in the end and yeah." She cut off suddenly.
"Hmmmm... I'm not sure if I should of said what I just did..." She said thoughtfully. "Well, you was bound to find out either way, but I'd prefer that you didn't tell the Dark gods about... well." the unicorn felt slightly uneasy now.

Lian was silent for a long time, mulling over what she had said. The Rainbow of Darkness had come to Ponyville before the gods, and she was reluctant to divulge the ending. He had the idea that she was part of that ending, and she didn't like being reminded. However, he couldn't promise not to leak the information to the other gods, although he was sure they would find out one way or another.
"Part of being a Shadow God, Moon Crystal, is not being able to promise one side or another anything. For if the balance changes then so do I. If there is too much good, then I lean towards my more playful, volitile side. Too much evil and I lean the other way. You will pick this up in time on your own, but you must promise neither side a thing. Promising to help one side may force you to break a promise, and that is not looked on kindly by gods."
He paused, then smiled. "Ahh, and now I feel as if I have been leaning too much towards the scholarly side and it is time to play again. For above all I am a trickster, and hate to be serious for too long. So how about a game of wink-tag to work on your skills?"

"Oh ok then..." Moony said, nodding her head. For some reason she felt like she was been given a lecture, even though the topic was not all that bad. The job of the shadow god seemed a bit confusing, though it did make a bit of sense. She saw that Lian was the little bit extra to help balance things out when there was too much of good or evil.
Seeing Lian smile again, cheered the unicorn up though, and the whole seriousness business was forgotten. "A game huh? Ooo yes, that would be wonderful! But how do you play wink-tag?"
She had a bit of an idea of how the game was probably meant to be played; something to do with winking and tag. She just needed it to be a bit more precise.

"Why, its just like regular tag, only you are allowed to wink to tag someone or get away from them. If you can't wink fast enough you will be tagged or you will miss getting them. It will also help you in guessing where another pony will wink to just by studying their body language and eye movements. Afterall, you have to know where you are going to wink before you actually do it." He smiled at her, "if you like, I will be 'it' first, so you can get a hang of it."

"Oh ok then." Moony said, instantly feeling that she might not do too well at this game... at first that is. "Ok, so I run off and I'm allowed to wink."
She smiled and ran off as swiftly as she could, looking here and there incase she needed to wink to a particular spot to get away before Lian could tag her. She realised that in this game she may not have a lot of time to close her eyes and put a whole heap of time on concentrating on a spot, that is if she wanted to get away. So, she tried hard as to focus on particular spots so she was better prepared to wink.
