Lily picked the orange post-it note off the fridge and read it in her head. She looked over at Silence, who was looking at the note curiously. "D'you want me to read it to you?" she asked, politely.

Silence heard Lily enter the room from behind him. He turned and smiled up at her. His white eyes were shimmering in the light.
"D'you want me to read it to you?"
The foal grinned and swished his tail with pleasure. Yes, please do. He thought, wishing it were audiable. The foal was getting better and better at his vocabulary and speech. It was a shame no one would know it.

Lily grinned back at the colt, then read the note out to him. "So, if you want anything, just ask."

Silence frowned after Lily read the note out loud to him. His ears were folded back with irritation. This was really great. Just when he had found the only link to his father, she had to leave again. With his luck he'd probably never see her again until half a year like last time he'd seen her.
He sighed, accepting it. Nothing could be done about it. It was the first time the little white foal had ever stopped hoping. What's the use... he thought to himself with a sigh. I'm never going to see him again. Maybe he didn't like me. Maybe that's why he left... Questions and possiblities ran through his head like never before. It's been two seasons since he'd seen Jol. Maybe it was time to give up. A tear fell dow the little foal's cheek. Nothing was going his way, and up until now he had just seemed to ignore it because he had something to hold on for...something to look forward to. He whiped his face and replaced his sullen expression with a serious, determined one. I won't give up. He decided to himself firmly. I can't.
