Sparx's stomach lurched as Tink told Shade what had happened. She closed her eyes and her head spun. She felt so sad, so guilty and didn't know why. The poor foal knew that Tink was right, but didn't want to believe it, didn't want to feel alone and small. He was afraid, she could tell. She knew that feeling. She knew and recognized the sense of having lost something so important. Holding in her tears, she turned away to do something other than be here.

Cane tried to continue avoiding looking at Shade, "I'm so sorry, kid, I really am..."

Shade had to admit it was true by now, and the tears were coming down in a waterfall. Tink picked him up and hugged him "Don't worry buddy, it'll be fine." she tried to smile, but it was a lost cause and a few stray tears drifted down her own cheeks. She brushed them away quickly, right now she didn't need to be making any oceans for herself, she had to keep a little kid from drowning in his own.

Snowflake trotted up, her eyebrowe still slightly raised from DW's mental behavior. When she looked up and saw Tink and Shade crying, her ears drooped slightly. She wondered what she had missed. She opened her mouth slightly, but decided to say nothing. This was not the time to ask questions. Tink's sister...Shade's mother. she remembered. Her passing...this is what it's about. I wish there was something I could do. She looked up at Cane, not knowing what to do.

Sparkleworks felt a lump rising in her throat as she drew closer to her friends. She didn't say anything, but instead kept her gaze intent on the floor. Her mane hung in her face, so no one could see her trying to hold back her tears.

"Don't cry Sparx, please, its or loss, not yours. I never knew my sister to wellnanyway, but this is just so hard." Tink bit her lip and hugged Shade tightly. Mace stood to the side and shifted uncomfortably, not sure what to do.

Seeing now that the uncomfortable silence was broken, Sf looked up at Tink. "Is there anything we can do for you both?" She asked with a shaky voice.

Mace finally decided to approach his girlfriend, he approached slkowly, with the attitude of a stallion approaching a mare and foal, cautious, not quite sure if she was going to turn on him. He whispered in her ear and nuzzled her cheek, trying to smile and cheer her up. Tink shook her head and laughed faintly. She couldn't help it, things were just so messed up. "I think that we should just let Shade get settled into Ponyville, he came at a rather bad time though didn't he?"

Sparx tossed back her mane and sniffed as she bit back her tears and became calm. "Yes, a rather bad time, but at least the darkness has been expelled. What kind of a world would that be for him?" she said, her voice growing stronger.

"A terrible one." Tink whispered and turned to shade "Its gonna be ok buddy. Your mom left you with me so that you'd be safe and so that you wouldn't forget her, like grandma and grandpa would have made you..." Tink's face fell faintly at this. Shade's father had left and his grandparents had never forgiven her sister for choosing such an irresponisble mate. She hugged Shade tightly and set the foal down. Shade sat on the bench and weakly nudged his sandwiche. It was no use to cry, it wouldn't bring his mom back. He knew that. He took a bite of the sandwiche and kept eating silently.

Sparx was relieved that Shade had stopped crying. It was no lie that he would need time to mourn his loss, but she felt so awful when he cried. She was so confused. First the castle had been destroyed, and many had been killed, and now poor Shade had lost his mother. She knew it was not her problem, but she couldn't stop her heartache. She supposed it was sympathy and perhaps pity for Shade and Tink, but it felt so much stronger. She looked over at Cane and then once again lowered her gaze to the floor. "If there's anything I can do for you," she mumbled, "Let me know."

Snowflake was silent. She stared at floor and closed her eyes. A tear was about to leak through. She couldn't help it with all the sadness in the air. Her jaw dropped slightly and her eyes widened as she suddenly realised something. Something that Tink herself had told her. "Life is only what you let it be. If you sink into sorrow thats what your life becomes" The words echoed inside her head. She now understood what Tink meant. She looked up at Tink and gave a warm smile. For she had remembered that long ago her mother told her that a simple smile can make someone feel a whole lot better. She wanted Tink and Shade to feel better. She didn't want thier lives to sink into sorrow.

Sparx felt awkward standing there with nothing useful to say. She was at a loss of words to cheer Tink and Shade up. She tried to put on a cheerful smile to enliven the two, but it felt stiff and fake. While she was no longer experiencing sadness, she was not happy either. What was she going to do?

Mace looked at the small foal for a bit, and made a decision. He beckoned to Shade and without a glance at Tink, left with him. "Mace, where are you going?" Tink glared at him, but trusted him completely.

Sparx nodded for she felt she knew the reason Mace had taken Shade, thought she couldn't have verbally told an answer. Now that Mace and Shade were gone, Sparkleworks felt even more awkward, but she hadn't the slightest idea why.
