"Whew!" Jewel landed on the forest floor, grinning as she stretched her wings and took in the new surroundings. "Look at this.. a brand new place, a new life.." She shifted her weight on her feet, the idea of a new adventure making her heart pound in her chest. To a passer-by, it would seem as if she were talking to herself. They didn't know that someone was listening.
A new problem soon surfaced, Jewel realized, and her more serious and sensible side came forward. I need shelter.. something to call home.. She thought. Hoisting her large leather sac onto her back, she began walking through the forest, the place she felt most comfortable and most connected with. She heard water nearby.. that was a good sign. Water meant hydration, as well as food. Keeping on a long-since beaten path, something caught Jewel's eye. Squinting, she saw an equine form ahead. "Hey!" She called, interested in making her first contact with someone from this land. The figure disappeared behind some trees. Determined, Jewel cantered after it. She followed the muffled sound of hoofbeats until the woods led to a small clearing by the edge of the stream. She struggled to bring herself to a sudden stop as she realized the figure had stopped, and was looking over its shoulder to her. Their eyes met, and Jewel felt a shiver up her spine. Whatever thing this was, it couldn't seem to stay materialized. Parts of it seemed to come and go like the waves hitting the sand--they changed the times when they appeared, but were all one mass. Eventually, with a last blink of its eye, it disappeared from sight.
Jewel sat on her hindquarters, puzzled. She glanced around warily, suddenly very unsure of this place. A thousand questions raced through her mind, but didn't find the answers they craved. "Maybe I should find somewhere else.." She said, shakily getting to her feet. She felt a tingle in her left shoulder. Raising her head, she heard the voice.
"Sometimes the heart sees what the mind does not."
Jewel suddenly raised her head, and looked across the stream. There, amidst the protection of trees, was a small clay and stone dwelling. Without another thought, she glided over the stream.

Hesitantly, Jewel drew close to the small building. "Hello?" She called politely, "Is anyone here?"
No replies met her inquizitive silence. Jewel gently pushed open the wooden door with a foreleg, and peeked inside. The entire dwelling was empty, save for a very old table and chair. "It looks like no one has been here for years.." Jewel stepped inside, and was surprised to find how comfortable she felt in this place. With its small windows and strong walls, she could feel very safe here. She wriggled the strap over her head and put her pack down on the solid dirt floor. It was spacious enough for a young pegasus, and seemed to be the kind of place to stay warm in winter, and cool in the summer heat.
Jewel looked down curiously at the pools of light on the floor, then to the ceiling to see where their source was. She sighed. The roof was hardly adequate. The frame and skeleton of the roof were still there, but there seemed to be nothing to keep out the elements. She definitely had her work cut out for her.
As the sun began to set, Jewel kneeled by the stream for a cool drink of water. She was exhausted. Pushing herself up onto her feet, she looked up at her new home with admiration and pride. She had spent the rest of the day attaching reeds and huge palm tree-like leaves to the roof, and the result was a sturdy, waterproof shelter. She smiled, and walked into the dwelling. There would be more repairs to do, but at least she could sleep a little more easily tonight. Only slightly disappointed that she didn't have a bed, Jewel pulled a soft fleece blanket from her pack, and curled up on the floor, ready for sleep.

:: Willow kept running untill she came to a little abandoned building. Exept, to her surprise it didnt look so abandoned anymore. Willow always hoped that some day a pony would move into ponyvilles outer edges. Then willow wouldnt be so lonely out here. Willow knocked softly on the door of the building.::

Jewel jumped slightly as she heard a knock on what was now her door. She hesitated, wondering if it could be that ghostly pony she saw the day before. What if she had taken its house?? Swallowing and stepping toward the door, Jewel opened it enough to let one purple eye see who the guest was.
To her surprise and delight, she found a friendly-looking and unintimidating cream-colored pony a few feet from the threshold to her house. Opening the door all the way, she stepped forward and introduced herself, "Hi, I'm Jewel. It's nice to meet you, umm....?" and began a conversation that she hoped would leave her with a new friend. She missed her friends from her old home.... but she wasn't going to think about that anymore.

"I'm Willow from the prairie pony tribe." Willow stated exidedly. She was happy to see another pony move in. " I live not too far away and I was running from this thing.. and" Willow breathed "I ended up here. I've seen this place before, it was run by an old farmer, he died off and the place kinda just became abandoned. I can see you've fixed it up nicely though!!" Willow peered back to where her kleepa was. No body was at the door but the constant knocking was starting to freak her out. then Willow wondered if Jewel noticed anything awkward too. "Have you noticed anything odd around here?" Willow asked.

Jewel noticed this pony didn't have a symbol, which was strange, because symbols usually represented not only names, but the personality and significance of a pony. She was intruiged, but decided not to ask. If for any reason she needed to know, she would be informed.
So.. I'm living in a dead guy's house. Peachy.
Referring to the question she was asked, Jewel responded, "Well, it's a little soon for me to be judging what's abnormal here and what isn't," She laughed good-naturedly. "Everything seems.. fine.. though." Jewel thought better of discussing ghostly half-materialized ponies roaming the Outer Edges. "You said something was chasing you...?"

"I dunno" Willow sighed "but somthing keeps knocking on my door and when i answer, no one is there. Its starting to get creepy". Willow wondered if she sounded corny. Odd things tend to happen once in a while around here, but most ponies don't belive a word of it. She also didnt want to make jewel feel bad for living in the dead guys house .she did'nt want to make her neighbor flee before she even settled. "Dont worry about that old farmer, he only lived in the house over the summers -it was like a vacation spot for him. in fact i dont think he even owned it." Willow smiled and looked at the marvelous roof work.

"What fun is a place to live if nothing out of the ordinary ever happens?" Jewel grinned, her adventurous spirit surfacing for a moment. She then followed Willow's gaze to the rooftop.
"There's still so much I have to repair," Jewel said thoughtfully, "I plan to have it feeling like a home within the next week or so." She sounded optimistic.
"I'd invite you in for tea," Jewel explained humorously, "But it seems the stream doesn't exactly flow with it," She laughed. "I'm afraid all I have to offer a guest is some water and a few bowls of berries I found this morning."

"Oh thanks for the offer!! actually, if you'd like to, you can come over to my place i have some dried clovers and mint sprigs i can grind to make tea." Willow looked hopefully at jewel. " I could grind some extra and you could take it here and make tea any time!" Willow added. " It's so nice to have a neighbor, and I'd love to help you fix up this house! If you ever need a helping hand-er HOOF just call on me!" Willow smiled and looked at jewel. " So how 'bout that tea at my place?"

Jewel thought about the offer for a short moment. It had been a long time since she'd found a long-term place to stay, and similarly, since she'd made any promising friendships. Her months of travel had left her with acquaintences, but she'd have to move on shortly after making friends. She was reluctant to let the hole that had grown in her heart stretch any bigger than it already had by so many lost relationships. The friends who made empty promises.. the friends who moved on.. and the friends who forgot her.
"Don't let your fear drown your courage.. many great achievements involve taking a risk."
Jewel smiled inwardly at the reassurance, and looked to Willow, "I'd love to."
