Jewel shut her eyes tighter as the sun rose high enough to shine in through one of her windows. Through her eyelids, the world looked red for a moment, until she opened her eyes and brought things into focus. Morning.
Jewel stood up and gave her blanket a good shake before folding it in a corner. At first she felt a pang of disappointment in the condition of her house, but that was soon replaced by a flare of determination. She looked at her surroundings, mentally picturing the way she wanted it to look. Structural components were the priority. Jewel's stomach growled an argument. Well, maybe second priority...
After eating a small breakfast of the food Willow had so kindly provided her with, Jewel pulled her cantene from her bag to retrieve some water from the stream. She heard a mental tinking noise, and turned to see her amulet fall out of the bag as well. After placing the cantene around her neck, she bent to pick up her treasure. She looked at it wistfully, the glitter and shine of the stone now dull, and the silver chain and backing worn from centuries of wear and repair. Still, it was her favorite thing. She loved things that sparkle and glitter.. she recalled what someone told her once, when she complained of being colored so plainly compared to other ponies, "Remember your name. You are like a jewel... it's not until you're held in the right light that the whole world can see how much you shine."
She clasped the necklace around her neck and headed outside.
By late afternoon, Jewel had built shutters for her windows, a latch for her door, two chairs, a cabinet, cleaned out the fireplace, and began weaving what looked like a large net. Finding pieces of metal and other resources had greatly helped with this. As she lay down to sleep, her amulet shone in a patch of moonlight. "Maybe tomorrow we can find someone who can restore you.." Jewel said, toying with the charm. "I'll have to be careful though.. if anyone found out how valuable you were..."
