Jewel gasped as she was brutally thrown from her sleep by a terrifying nightmare. Her eyes struggled to focus as she clutched her blanket, a cold sweat on her temples. She shivered, and did her best to calm down. What was that all about? she asked herself. She forced her mind to go back to the images of her dream...
..::: She was caught in a storm, a whirlwind of darkness enveloping her body and making it hard to breathe. Zombie ponies of different colors swam through the storm, lashing out toward her with bites and kicks. The wind howled and screamed as Jewel couldn't even find her own voice. The light from the sun dimmed.. and dimmed... and dimmed....::::
Jewel tried to calm shaking hooves as she hid her face beneath her soft blanket, wishing it all to just vanish from her mind. It was then that the voice came to her:
"You have been given a message. You must carry it on,"
Lifting the blanket from over her eyes, Jewel saw for one of the first times the glowing white manifestation of the guardian that had been her companion for the past few years. Her eyes widened as she saw the pure white unicorn, standing below her hammock bed in her home. The solid purple eyes shimmered, and the ever-changing smear of a symbol on the unicorn's side glowed a dark red. Jewel recognized the ambiguousness of the symbol as something she had seen when mediating. The unicorn looked up at her and stamped a hoof.
"Why do I have to tell others?" Jewel asked, resting her head on the edge of the hammock. It was strange for her companion to be so persistent. Sensing the danger in the presence of the unicorn, Jewel jumped down from her loft-hammock, and looked the unicorn in the eyes.
"You must go.." The unicorn told her in a voice that was partially pleading. She never lost her powerful presence, however. Then she vanished again into invisibility.
Jewel, frightened by the fear in the unicorn's voice and the look in her eyes, looked about and hesitated, as afraid to go into the dark night as she was to stay in her home. Her front door unlatched itself and swung open. Now left without unsureness, Jewel galloped out into the night toward the home of her friend: Willow.
