Spring Fever had returned to her home in the Outer Edges. She had come to visit her family from her new place in Ponyville. She ran the whole way through the field to her old house. It looked just as tidy as it had when she had visited 2 weeks ago. She galloped up to the door and opened it, bringing her bag in with her. "HEY EVERYONE!" she yelled,"I'M HOOOME!" her little sister and her mom and dad came to the entryway to see her. "Hi Spring!" her sister greeted her. Spring Fever pulled her into a hug. "Let's go play!" she yelled and they went oustide. The siblings chased each other around the backyard. Her parents looked on shaking their heads and grinning. She would never change. ;D

"Ooh ooh my turn!" Spring Fever called out jumping up and down with excitement. She grabbed the hula hoop from Zinnia, her sister of course, and tried to keep it spinning on her waist. It fell down almost immediately. "Awww! I can never get it to stay," she said dissapointed. Then she spotted a ball in the yard and ran after it, forgetting her other game. Just as she was passing the ball to Zinny, the sky turned dark and she thought she heard distant thunder. This was odd. She wondered what was going on, and hoped someone would tell her...

"Hey Spring, are you ok?" Zinnia asked, concerned. She noticed her sister's odd behavior almost at once. Spring had acted like this during rainstorms ever since one day about oh, 2 years ago. She poked her sister in the side a few times, but when her Spring did not respond she just frowned and proceeded inside. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Spring Fever gazed into space. Every time it thundered out, she was taken back into time. Back to 2 years ago, when she was just 18....
She had been going to spend sometime with her old friend Mace. She always met up with him at the hemlock forest he lived in. There were no plants, just darkness. She had been happy and was looking forward to seeing a friendly face to play a game with. As she was galloping up to the forest she spotted Mace's adoptive mother. She called out, "Hey! Is Mace around?" His mother shook her head. She told Spring that he had gone out and that she was the only one around of their family. " I think he went towards Solsbury," she said helpfully. With a thanks, Spring ran off to Solsbury hill to find him. When she did arrive, she saw him in the distance, his father trailing slowly behind. They appeared to be having a serious conversation, so Spring Fever decided not to interrupt. Soon enough, things became violent and there was a struggle. Nothing could be heard from the distance between them, but Spring watched on in horror. Moments later Mace's adoptive father lay on the ground. Spring Fever felt sick. How could her friend do this? He had commited murder, and she had just witnessed it. It was stress to her soul, she was traumatized. Ironically, it began to rain just then. The mare ran home crying. Later her parents wondered what was wrong.....

I'll be back in a while Spring sent the message telepathically to her parents. Spring, it's storming out. Won't you please come in? To this Spring did not reply but instead just proceeded onward. She didn't stop until she reached the hemlock forest. She stood there at the edge and gazed on. Why had Mace done such a thing? He had left her to have no friends at all and went off to...to where? Maybe he had gone to Ponyville, like Spring herself. But if he had, he was no where to be seen when she was about. She tried to stop from crying, but the memories kept coming back, repeating themselves. The day Mace killed his father, the day he left. She had only her memories of her best friend, her only friend.

"Are you alright miss?" a voice said to Spring. She looked up and wiped her eyes. Standing there in front of her was a blue green stallion. "I, I was just..." Spring Fever trailed off. The stallion covered for her by introducing himself. "I'm High Tide. And you are...?" She told him her name and tried to figure out what he was doing here. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
High Tide was continuing his journey toward the ocean, his obsession, when he heard a mare crying. He turned and looked. There, just at the edge of the hemlock forest was a pink mare. "Are you alright miss?" he called to her, striding over. She had begun to explain but, not finding an excuse, never finished her sentence, so Tide decided to change the subject. He introduced himself and found her name was Spring Fever. "If you like, I could walk you home." he offered. She seemed very upset, and he thought she might like a little company. He knew he was delaying his trip, but she looked so sad...

Spring took him up on his offer and she pointed in the direction of her home. They started to talk and she found out a lot about High Tide. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "So you live in a house?" Tide asked her. Turned out there were floods... He told her all about how he was on his way to the ocean. He liked to talk to Spring Fever. He scolded himself. He wasn't supposed to make friends. Attachment was the only reason he wouldn't reach his destination, apart from injury. But he couldn't help but enjoy her company

All too soon they reached Spring's house. She didn't want to have to see High Tide go. In some ways, he reminded her of Mace, but hardly. He had been her chance of actually having a friend, but she shouldn't have gotten her hopes up; she knew he was on his way to the ocean. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ They reached Spring's house and High Tide knew he had to continue on. But there was something about this mare....who knew? Maybe he would hang around for a while.

High Tide decided he would stick around for Spring. He went off in a search for a place nearby where he could stay for a night.

As Spring walked inside her parents inquired where she had gone, but she made up a decent lie and never once metioned High Tide. She daydreamed around the house while pretending to play with Zinny. When the rain stopped, she went out and grazed, glancing around for hopefully High Tide, if he was even around anymore. She stayed out longer than she intended looking for him

Spring Fever didn't forget about Tide, but she went about her day like her usual hyper self. After only about an hour, the house was wrecked. There were eggs cracked all over from when Spring had tried to help her mother cook. She ended up having an egg war with Zinny. There was mud all over the walls when she had tried to be gardening, and ended up having a mud war with Zinny. And there was bits of fluff floating around from when she had went outside and ended up having a wrestling match with a bushwoolie.

After a while Spring just couldn't pretend to be hyper anymore. She went and sat outside. She sighed and thought to herself What has gotten into you? You hardly know this High Tide and you already miss him? She shook her head in dismay. She had never been like this before. Her forelock fell in front of her face and she tossed her head listlessly. She looked out on the still wet grass and had an overwhelming feeling of confusion. Her teal-green eyes gazed into space and she felt numb. She wanted to move on but something inside of her was stuck in place, Her heart.

An idea hit Spring just then. High Tide could have gone back to the hemlock forest! She didn't want to get her hopes up, but it was worth a try to go check. Be back in a minute she said telepathically to her parents. She took off as fast as she could go toward the forest.

Spring Fever pranced up to her home, proud of her deliberate victory. She slowly opened the front door and hoped everyone was asleep. Unfortunately, they were not. She coughed uncomfortably as she beckoned Tide into the house. "Er, mom, dad, this is High Tide." Her parents stared at her and sent to her We leave you alone for a few hours and already you manage to find a guy to drag home! The hyper mare shook her and returned, It's not like that! I had already met Tide, he just needs a place to sleep. Can't Zinny bunk in my room and Tide sleep in hers? Her parents agreed but insisted on meeting this new stallion. Introductions were made, and conversation commenced. Once they had gotten aquainted, Spring pulled Zinnia from her bed and carried the little foal over to Spring's own bed. She then brought Tide into her little sister's room. "Good night," she whispered. "Good night," he replied, "And thanks."

(jump)
Spring Fever awoke with a start as she fell out of bed. She groaned and stood up stiffly. She pranced downstairs to get some sugar. Much to her dismay, her parents were already awake, which meant no sugar until she could sneak some. Shrugging, she proceeded into the kitchen. "Has it snowed yet?" she asked eagerly. The Festival of Lights was certainly drawing near and she wanted to see a blanket of white on the ground for the occasion. Spring's mother shook her head. "Not yet dear," she replied, "Have patience." Spring's shoulders sank as she sat down next to her mother. "Patience isn't easy," she whined. She decided that later today she would visit Tide in his new apartment and check out his decorations for the holidays.

"Hey mom, I'm going to go check out Tide's new apartment!" Spring said, getting up to retrieve her scarf and hat. Her mother stuck out a hoof. "Not so fast there Spring," she said with a smile, "You promised your father you would help put up decorations of our own for the Festival of Lights, remember?" Spring tried not to look disappointed. "Yeah. After all, what would the Festival of Lights be without holiday lights?" she said, doing her best to force a grin on her face. She got out her hat and scarf and went out the front door to find her father already up on a ladder stringing up strands of bulbs. "Hey dad," Spring called out, "What do you want me to put up?" "There should be some bows and garlands in a box on the lawn, want to hang some of those on the front?" Spring didn't say another word, just pranced ovver to the box and begun to decorate.
