Mace looked at Shade without any apparent emotion. The young foal was still tiredd form teh awalk here and had sat down the minute the reached the meadow, Mace would allow him to rest for now, but he would teach the young foal a bit too. Shade looked up to Mace, he was, after all, Aunt tink's boyfriend and obviously trustworthy or Aunt Tink wouldn't have let him follow the grey stallion. "What are we doing here?" "Helping you get over your loss." "I can't." Shade sniffled, "You don't understand it's-" "I lost my entire herd, now, I'm going to teach you to fight and etcetera because it will help get your mind of that, you're only a foal so i won't be to hard on you, now, see that field? Run, just run. at a breakneck pace and don't stop, just swerve." Shade frowned and was about to protest, but obeyed. He ran, and felt the first joy for days. He was free! His hooves flew over the earth and the wind rang in his ears. He felt soemthing else too, and caught sight of them out of teh corner of his eyes. spirits were following him, not an unfamiliar thing, but for once it was not in anger and they were good. Merely running beside him like supernatural bodyguards.

Stopping finally at the far end of the meadow from Mace, Shade had an idea. What was the use of having an adult tag a long when eh wanted to explore, why not escape and explore on his own? Why not? Before mace could follow, Shade had slipped silently into the shadows. Mace cursed as he took off after the foal. it would take forever to track him down.
