The black alicorn made his way out to an opening and glanced at the mountains in the distance. Somewhere behind those mountains would be Dream Valley and all those oher places he had visited long ago during his studies. But with his master on other errands, Dreamer did not know what to do or where to go. He felt that his friends, those he love, had bound him to the spot, trapped him in a cage. He longed to explore and learn, but with the gods running around town...
Charm... Gabriel... Moony... He closed his eyes. The winds around him blew gently tugging him in the direction of those mountains which he wanted to cross. But the alicorn took a step back. Not now...
"You really want to leave this place don't you Dreamer?"
Dream Chaser turning around to face the unicorn he knew by voice, but not by face. The shadow god was slender in a way, his dark mane and tail straight and flowing, the colour of his eyes reminding the alicorn of orangey golden flames, weary flames dully burning and about to be put out.
The black alicorn shrugged,. "I'm just not the type to stay in one place for too long; Not the type to know that over those mountains are places to be discovered and things to learn... I have nothing against Ponyville and its citizens. It's just me..." Dreamer said. The god nodded, but said nothing else.
"So, you're Ocasta, huh?" Dreamer continued. The unicorn did not respond. "I've heard your calls, but did not return your messages. A reason? Heh... I simply want you to leave me and mine alone."
"You know I am not going to stop until I get what I want."
It was Dreamer’s turn to not respond, and just stare elsewhere. It would seem as though suddenly the alicorn had lost interest or had forgotten that the other was there, but the god knew that he was listening.
Ocasta continued. "You, like a few others of this town, know of the gods who are walking amongst you; that there are dark and light as well as shadow gods. You know it could only mean trouble or something else, if you know a fair lot about my folk…"
Dreamer knew what the answer could possibly be, but he asked anyway: "Why are you telling me this?"
“I’ll be honest with you then; I need your help.” Ocasta said.
“Oh, so you admit it, eh? I didn’t think you gods where like that.”
Ocasta smiled at Dreamer in a way that gave the alicorn the feeling that he was saying that he will never be able to understand clearly the way the god’s mind operated. Ocasta continued.
“In return for being my mage, I can give you what ever you want; vast knowledge, healing abilities, a voice with charm. That is as long it within my abilities of course…”
“I want none of those things; you cannot give me what I truly want.” Dreamer said, looking at Ocasta. He could tell from the god’s eyes that he was in desperate need of power, energy. “And anyway, I do not wish to become your battery and lose my free will.”
“Then maybe I am missing the target.” Ocasta said. The unicorn walked over to the other side of Dreamer and stared out to the sky, silent for a moment as he considered something and then continued to speak casually. “What were their names again? Charm, Gabriel and Moon Crystal...”
The black alicorn froze for a moment, and turned his head to glare at Ocasta. ”You wouldn’t dare…” Dreamer thought out to the god. The dark grey unicorn, without turning his head, looked at the other, unsmiling. He knew though he had hit home. “Surely you’d want them safe from harm...” He continued. “But their safety cannot always be reassured with my kinda and such out and about, especially with the dark gods and their obvious dark intentions.”
“Are you saying that if I join you, become your mage or whatever, that they will be kept safe and from harm?” Dreamer said, hinting interest.
“I cannot guaranty their safety for ever of course.” Ocasta said. “You must have an idea of the purpose to the shadow gods. I’m sure your teacher spoke of us to you.”
“Only very little. The gods never really meant very much to him.” Dreamer said. “He said that the shadow gods were like a balance; that they were in between those of the light and the darkness. How did you know I have a teacher?”
Ocasta shrugged. “I have been prying into your mind, and I can tell you’ve been trying to contact him for sometime. You haven’t seen him for almost two seasons.”
To know that someone was entering his thoughts secretly without permission vexed Dreamer. “Well he hasn’t abandoned me or anything along those lines.” Dreamer said hotly. “I am still his student, it is going to stay that way and I doubt that he will be pleased with the idea of me helping you with this little campaign of yours and the other gods.”
“I never said anything about you becoming a student, but just a mage. ((I'm not sure if student and mage are exactly equal like)) That is being my source of power, my ears and eyes when I am not around. I am certain you know.” Ocasta paused, but continued, changing the subject purposely. “We are a like in our ways, our knowledge is similar. You have an interest for those of the Native American-” He nodded his head in the direction of the two eagle feather in his main. “I can share my knowledge of my people with you, that way you will be still learning new things of what interest you. That can be a sort of payment for your, lets say, services.”
Of course, this caught the young alicorn’s attention and just seeing Dreamers ears prick toward in interest, made the god smile for a brief moment. Dreamer considered it for a moment and then smiled.
“You know, for a god, you’re not as nasty as I thought you would be.”
Ocasta shrugged. “I think it is because the dark gods have been rather naughty at the moment. It affects me like that, the need to balance out the good and the bad.” He spoke rather carelessly as though it was nothing strange.
Dreamer grinned and nodded. “Fine then, as long as you give me what you promised-.”
The deep grey unicorn nodded his head. “Protection for your friends; knowledge for your appetite.”
“I do as you ask until my master returns and you and the rest of your godly lot leave Ponyville.” Dreamer finished, arching out his neck and offering the tip of his horn.
Ocasta sighed discreetly and nodded. “So be it.” He reached out his neck and tapped the tip of his horn on the others, the gesture in meaning to seal the bargain. They moved their horns a apart, and Ocasta could already sense a new strength in him; Dream Chaser now left his energy sources open to the god, reluctant though, but he understood what he needed to do. It felt in a sense, refreshing, but he needed another mage still.
"So..." Ocasta felt as thought he should start fullfilling his end of the deal. "What would you like to know about first?"
((Strange, but its finally done Dream Chaser is offically Ocasta's mage. ))
