Binnacle grinned. He imagined what it would be like to show Spookytale around the underground cities, but he also wondered if she would like having to swim through sewage. He decided to point this out. "You do realize," he began, clearing his throat, "In order to get from town to town you have to go by way of sewers..." He thought it would be great though if he could find someone to cast a spell on Spooky to turn her into a seapony for just a day. He'd almost forgotten how lonely it was down there, never seeing the sun. That is, except through storm drains, or leaks in the pipes and such.

"You did it. How bad is it?" Spooky mulled things over. "How often did you get eaten?"
She finished her cocoa, and started casting sidelong glances at the pastry display.

"Well in the end it's worth it," Binnacle grinned. He played through all the places he would show Spookytale if she could go into the underground cities. He gulped down the last of his hot chocolate and decided to stop wishing. It would only make him feel worse. And he knew once night fell he would have to go back down until morning. It was such a pity his new friend couldn't come with him; after all, nighttime was the best time for exploring.

"I bet it is!" Spookytale grinned. What stories her new friend must have!
"Do you think we could go tonight?"

Binnacle's smile faded. "I don't know..." he said. "Unless I can find someone with the magic to give you temporary gills, I don't see any way of going about in Ponyville below." She would be past her head in water and no way to breathe. Curse the ways of life. Why couldn't normal ponies breathe underwater?

"oh, shnickerpops!"
Spooky smiled comfortingly. She wasn't mad at Binnacle, just the situation.
"Well, if you'd like to tell me stories, I'd love that. Or...is there anything you'd like to do? Are there any questions I shouldn't ask? Is it really true? It seems too cool to be true."

"I'll think of all the things I've done below Ponyville, and if I think of anything for a good story I'll tell you," Binnacle smiled. He had done so much down in the sewers. Maybe he should tell Spooky about the first time he went to the ocean, or about his migration to Jadus with a herd of seaponies. "You can ask whatever you like. And yes it is true." Now that Binnacle thought about it, it must be pretty strange hearing a stallion say that he's really a seapony at night and he's travelled through underground water cities. He wasn't sure if he would believe it, had he been hearing it from someone else. "Well, I can tell you about the time I migrated to Jadus," he said. It was such a beautiful island, and had nice clean water surrounding it too.

"Oh, that would be wonderful. A nice tropical story for this weather. Hey! Do you think I could use scuba gear? Or maybe we could dig our own canals! Or....you could tell me your story." Spooky looked abashed, realizing that she was having a train of thought without inviting anyone else along for the ride.

"We'll think of something," Binnacle said truthfully. If he could just get the right idea, then maybe Spooky would be able to come along that night. While he was brainstorming, he began his story. "Well, I had been just a little foal, about 3, when my parents told me about the migration to Jadus that went on every 4 years. For a week or two we had begun preparing for the trip. I had to practice to swim for long periods of time so I would be used to the long stretches of swimming ahead of me. I had to learn to keep up with my parents and the group. We would have to scavange for our own food, which was harder than looking for food in the smaller underwater cities. The day finally came and we set out with the large group we were supposed to travel with. All went fine for the first hour, then we took a break and looked for some food. But then we reached the ocean. My parents had told me not to take my eyes off of them, so I wouldn't get lost, but now I couldn't help it. The ocean was so beautiful, so alive and filled with creatures. The colors were just about the coolest and brightest I'd ever seen. And of course, being the stupid foal that I was, I lost my parents. In fact, I lost the whole group. I was so scared and I didn't know what to do. I began asking some of the fish for help, but they didn't understand me. I told myself to calm down and I just kept swimming. By their next break, my parents must have noticed I was gone. They were just as scared as I had been. They later told me that they couldn't come back for me because the group held them back and made them keep going. 'He'll find his way, he's an intelligent foal,' they said. I did, of course, but it was the most frightening thing I'd ever done. It was hard catching food and I didn't know my way. But, by instinct, I finally made it to Jadus below and found my parents. Beautiful place even below it. Nice bright blue water," he finished bluntly. He remembered all the sights, and sounds. He wished he could see Jadus above.

"Woooow. All by yourself? There's no way I would have been able to stay with a group either. That must have been scary. Do you really go every 4 years? Thank you for sharing!"

"Well I don't go anymore. Ever since I was able to turn into an earth pony in the day, I would only be able to travel at night. And unless you've tried, let me tell you it's hard swimming to Jadus in one night." Binnacle sighed. Being able to become an earth pony was both a blessing and a curse. He got to experience two worlds, and such an opportunity he thought he would never do. But on the other hand he couldn't do the things he used to, and he couldn't spend as much time with his family. All in all he decided it was a good thing, but there were some regrets.

"We could rent a boat? Or put in a radio collar so that the boat could find you in the day. You could all be like, "Batboat! C'mere!" And it would swoosh up. That'd be awesome. Too bad I'd drown. Though that would be an interesting story. If I drowned would my ghost be a sea pony?"

Binnacle took a while to let his brain process everything Spooky had just said. Finally he replied, saying "Nah, your ghost would probably be an earth pony. But maybe you would haunt the ocean." He grinned almost stupidly at his response.

Binnacle noted that it was nearing late afternoon. He hadn't realized how long they had been there. "Hey whadaya say we hit the road?" the stallion suggested, "We've been here a while, and I need to take a walk." He didn't like to sit for long periods of time, and some fresh winter air sounded ideal.

Spookytale nodded.
"Yes, of course. Do you want to go back to the river? Or do you want to do some shopping, or check out the burned parts of town? I'm glad I ran into you today."
(OOC: Sorry, I was on vacation, and I got VERY sick on the way home.)
