Spooky stopped just outside the cafe. Her grey and purple coloring seemed more suited to the winter landscape then the pastel pink edifice. She grinned at Binnacle, glad that they got along despite just meeting. He was obviously some sort of lunatic or sea monster that jumped into rivers all the time or something and Spookytale felt completely comfortable with that. So much so that she'd be a little bit dissapointed if Binnacle ever told her he was totally normal.
She waved her orange book at the entrance. "This is the place...er, you probably knew that. Wait, are you new to town? I'm so rude, I'm sorry."

Binnacle quickly took Spooky's cover. "Yeah, I just came here not too long ago," he lied. He had lived in Ponyville all his life, but below it. The only reason he hesitated to tell Spooky was because he liked her and wanted to be her friend. Chances of that would most likely be slim if she found out he was a seapony. "You're not rude at all," he assured her.

Spookytale smiled, relieved, then started to trot inside. She chatted as she walked.
"I'm so sorry I didn't ask earlier. After we warm up do you want to explore? Some parts of town are really neat and almost feel haunted! Er...I mean, there's nice stuff to see. I could show you around, if you'd like. Or I could show you The Nursery, there's lots of ponies staying there..." Spookytale didn't want to make her new acquaintance feel trapped, and there were a lot more socially apt ponies at the nursery that would probably do a better job showing him around.
"They do make nice tea. I mean here, not The Nursery."

Binnacle walked in after her. He almost had to shield his eyes from the bright pastel walls. He pretended not to mind and went after Spookytale. His ear twitched and swiveled in her direction at the sound of the word haunted. "Haunted?" he asked with interest.

"What? The tea? Oh no, the town. Well, there has been tragedy here. I wouldn't be surprised...I mean, not that ghosts are real, or...um..." Spookytale felt like she might as well just hit herself in the head with a chrome napkin box. Most of the people that talked to her and read her stories didn't believe in ghosts, and told her as much. There were usually pretty nice about it, but still...
"I'll get us drinks from the counter if you find a table?"

"Ok," he said, still intrigued by what Spooky had said. He walked off to find a table for them, looking back at her all the while.

(OOC: Do'h I forgot to say what time of day this is. What time did Binnacle jump in the river? First thing in the morning?)
Spookytale awkwardly made her way to the counter, feeling even more out of place then usual. Half way there she realized she didn't know what to get, but she felt like that since she'd offered to get drinks she really should have known. When she got to the counter, she decided to just wing it. She described what she wanted to the waitress, then made her way back to the table.
"Hey. I got cocoa. And they made the marshmallows look like little ghosties. Aren't they sweet?" Spooky looked affectionately at the little melting ghosts, almost the way some mares might look at a little foal. She grinned and bit one of their heads. "Well, hope cocoa is ok!"

((Yeah, around morning time, so I'd say it's about noon, maybe a bit earlier )) Binnacle smiled at the little ghost marshmallows. He took a small sip, wincing as it bit his tongue with heat. It didn't bother him at all, and he drank more. "Cocoa's great," he said, pulling out her chair for her.

Spookytale plopped down, somewhat relieved.
"So what brings you to town? Are you here with family?"

"Not exactly," Binnacle said semi-truthfully, "I have relatives here, but mostly I came here for a change in landscape. Just to get around. I didn't want to live in Dream Valley forever." He had traveled to Dream Valley through the connecting sewers, but he hadn't actually seen the city above. That was the only place he could think of to say to Spooky. He realized his lying was probably hurting their friendship more than telling her the truth, but he didn't know how to explain. Yet he was ready for any anger Spooky might aim at him for lying. He took a deep breath and said, "Actually Spookytale, I'm not really new here. And I'm not from Dream Valley. I've lived here all my life, but haven't actually seen the city," he began.

Spookytale squinted at Binnacle, then smiled.
"You're kinda nuts. That's ok."
Spookytale nudged his shoulder reassuringly. But then she had a sudden realization.
"Oh no, did you used to be blind?"

Binnacle had to laugh at that one. "No, I wasn't blind." he assured her, wondering if she had been serious, "I just....well....let's just say all this time I've lived below Ponyville, if that makes any sense. I'm not really a normal stallion you see, well only in daylight." He lowered his voice to a whisper. "But at night, the moonlight reveals what a really am, and that's....that's a seapony."

"Ooooh...ok. I guess that would make it hard to see Ponyville, with all of the flopping around and no legs and stuff. Hey, what's below the city like? It sounds so marvy, is it creepy? Are there gnomes?"
Spookytale smiled excitedly, drinking her cocoa with gusto.

"Well, it's kinda dark, and grimy..." he began, "There's lizards and frogs and dead fish. And don't forget mold! Seaponies and other creatures gather sometimes for market meetings where they trade and buy stuff, it's really more of a social get together. I've travelled to Dream Valley, Fewa, other far away places just by the sewers."

Spookytale's eyes grew wide. Imagine! A whole underground society! With gatherings, and markets, and lizards!
"Wow, you're so lucky to have seen all those places. Do you think I could turn into a zombie dolphin, or learn how to swim, or something?"
