Things for Roxanne just hadn't been the same since the accident. She had tried to regroup, and had even succeeded for a while, but still the memory of a flash of orange and a crash of light hurt her mind, and she had dreams of blue swirls...
So she boarded up the theater, once again, and headed out to the countryside for a while, once again, to clear her mind - and maybe finally to understand what it was that sent stripes of the sky streaming under her eyelids when she slept.
Anyhow, the Ponyville Players had disbanded after their unsuccessful tour of Ponyland, and for all of her talk she didn't think she could really get a season of shows up at the Center Stage anyway. Maybe after some fund-raising in a year or two she could get things going again. But for now she could live on savings, wits, and connections. All of which she was fairly confident in, and rightly so.
As Roxy opened the door to her loft, she thoughtfully rubbed the blue mark at the base of her back ankle. Finally she was at peace with her gift. Out in the country, when she had stopped fighting the dreams and opened her mind, she found herself able to bend the grass with a word and make the leaves quiet their rustling to listen to her. She was disconcerted, sure - she had never liked magic - but reality was reality. Anyway, it was a resource. Like techies or costume designers. Maybe to put on a good life show she'd need the support of a little piece of the rainbow. It wasn't entirely a burdening thought - in fact, it made her feel a little lighter sometimes, gave her something to believe in...
Up in her loft, Roxanne stepped over to her bureau. She took the necklace that Rainbow Dash had given her and put it carefully around her neck. The silver and amber glimmered gently against her coat. In admiring it, she noticed a little scar beneath the hair and frowned. D**n that orange pony and his lies.
A blue glow tinted the air around her. She looked up into the mirror again, and instead of spooking as she would have done months ago... she smiled. And trit-trotted back down the stairs and out into town.
