(ooc: Tabs is a NPC, feel free to play her as needed. Think of her as a plump motherly type, she'll keep things in order and keep your spirits up)
Spooky tiptoed up to the store. She'd just gotten it and already she'd gotten destracted by something (very remarkable and awesome) and fumbled up somehow. She was very glad her Mummy had helped her find Tabs. Her family had the nestegg, Tabs had the experience and capability. So...Spooky would run it when she could, and Tabs would keep everything from falling apart.
"Tabs...?" Spooky whispered. She wanted to find her store manager, but she didn't want to get yelled at. Not that Tabs seemed like the yelling sort, but Spooky had gone into this with every intention of being competent and helpful. It wasn't going well.
A shadow disengaged itself from a stoop in the alley and trotted out. It was an older pony - early 40's - with grey and brown hair. Her body was tan with a light dappling of golden brown across her coat - it looked like she was standing under a shadowy tree in autumn. Her symbol was of a fat brown and black tabby housecat resting right in the middle of a newspaper. The pony herself had a bit of extra padding. She sighed.
"Before you say anything Spookytale I want to say it's ok. Really." Tabs smiled kindly, she knew the younger mare was inexperienced, and she didn't want to start her new career off with a squabble.
Spooky sniffled. "It is? I'm sorry. I wanted to get something for Binnacle to say sorry for vanishing and he wasn't around and I met a merpony and she was prettiful. And this whole thing is surreal, and here you are and a store full of stories...." Spooky paused her babbling blinked her damp eyes, and quickly handed Tabs the keys.
Tabs took the keys and resisted the urge to tsssk at Spooky about the merpony thing. Whoever heard of such a creature?
Together they opened the store and took in the dusty scene.
"It looks nice, just dusty. I expected something that needed a lot more fixing up. Why did the owners leave it?" Tabs shifted through some books by the register as she spoke.
"Well, the first owner might still be here, the part that counts, anyway. Irish Creme. She hung herself from right up there." Spooky pointed "The other one went insane and didn't pay her bills. The evil bill people were going to just throw these books out rather then deal with them." Spooky looked a little sad about the books. "But we saved them."
Tabs got a chill down her spine, then shook it off. "We better clean honey."
"Yeah! Ok." Spooky smiled. "I want to clear some space over by the sale books. I'd like to have people come in and do readings and stuff. It'd be good if there was a party the first night with an open mic night so that people can have good memories. Sometimes people look scared when they come near, I think because of the bill collector guys. But a party helps, right?"
Tabs nodded, and she felt a little glad in her heart. Maybe having Spookytale own the store would be good, an open mic night probably would bring business in.
The two of them got to work.
