Business had been a bit slow, though Spooky figured that might be because she, herself, hadn't been all that enterprising. After the first burst of customers Spookytale had busied herself with cleaning. Now the store looked pristine, all the dusty tomes had been put on the shelves (if not exactly dusted - dust adds charm and elegance to tomes, after all).
This morning Spookytale had awoken to the best smell in all of history. Warm cookies. The scent had literally carried her out of bed and down the stairs and into the kitchen, where she now nearly floated, mussy haired and sleepy sand eyed.
"Tabs, you baked cookies. Can I have one?" Spooky asked, eagerly blinking the sleep out of her eyes and reaching for an ooey gooey choco chip peanut butter gobmonster cookie.
"No, they're for the store."
Spookytale halted, not expecting to be denied cookies. That was just cruel and unusual.
"Maybe just a free samplll....YES!" Spookytale grabbed a cookie, shoved it in her maw, then ran out of the kitchen, her cheek bulging like a chipmunks.
Soon a sign was afixed to the front door:
FREE COOKIES! COME SAMPLE OUR FRESH BAKED GOODS

Autumn Skye couldn't resist the allure of books AND cookies. She siddled into the store, taking in a deep breath of both books (complete with dust) and cookies. Her eyes slid closed blisfully. Today was already shaping up to be a good day....
