Victory was not in a good mood. She had steadily walked away from the crowds of Ponyville, alternating between glaring haughtily, head helt proudly, and fixing her gaze downward, looking the image of thinly-veiled sorrow. At last, her hooves met water, and she pulled herself from her thoughts, glancing around wearily. Nobody around. Victory was alone... and that was just the way she liked it. The unicorn lay down on the river banks, staring into the Rainbow River's waters without really seeing. The sound of trickling water was calming, and eventually, Victory felt herself relax, allowing her mind to lazily caress the still-stinging wounds of the past...
"Mommy...?" The little unicorn filly trotted alongside her mother, taking three steps for every one the larger unicorn took.
"Yes, darling?" The occasional flash of Faithful's symbol of a dove shielding it's young chick was revealed to the filly whenever she fell behind.
"How come all the other ponies need you all the time?" Baby Faithful blew a pale blue-green lock of hair, almost as white as her coat, out of her eyes.
"Well, sweetie, I'm a healer. Not everyone has the same gifts as I, so it's my duty to help out any sick or injured ponies. Besides," Her mother smiled softly, indigo eyes turned to her child, "I like to help others, my love. Don't you?"
"Well, yeah, but..." The filly pouted a little, "I don't like it when you leave. Daddy's only here every other week, an' whenever I go to the babysitter's, Baby Surprise always bugs me."
Faithful laughed quietly. "Ah, Baby Faithful, what am I going to do with you? Surprise is very kind to look after you when your father and I are busy, and as for Baby Surprise... well... his heart's in the right place. You just have to be patient with him."
The filly pondered this a while, scratching at her lavender mane streak. Finally, Baby Faithful spoke up. "Okay, Mommy. I'll be patient an' nice, and when I grow up I'll be healer. I wanna be just like you!"
Back in the present, Victory laughed derisively. The irony was just too much.
