The walk back from town had flown by so much quicker than the walk. Same distance or not, the stallion couldn't keep his hooves from hurrying back to the river. His heart swelled as his boat came into view. Shortly after, the water and it was all he could to keep from running like a love struck colt to the river's edge.
Standing on soil, for quite easily the last time for the next several weeks he savored the warmth of the ground beneath his hooves. Taking a deep breath of the sweet summer breeze, it filled his lungs causing his chest to puff out. Slowly he released the breath. With a mighty leap he landed aboard his boat.
A quick check told him what he had known for weeks, everything was in order. All he had to do was untie the rope that held the boat in place. That was all he had to do, yet hooves trembled ever so slightly as he touched the rough rope. Running a hoof down it, he swallowed what he could only imagine to be his heart. Untying the rope, he tossed it ashore, leaving it for another to use when they docked for a spell.
With a jerk the boat rushed to the flowing river, eager to be in the midst of it again. Eyes stared at the horizon, wondering where the next stop would be and what he would find when he got there. Though his soul was happy to be free again, to be on the open water, a part of his heart wished he were sailing to shore, back to her instead of sailing away. With one last look behind him he glanced at the town that had been his home for almost a year's time. He'd be back. That much he already knew. But when, he had no idea. Would she be waiting for his return? No. It was too much to hope for and only a fool could wish for something so uncertain. Was he a fool? Never. At least he hadn't ever been before.
(OOC: And so our gypsy boy leaves town to return another day, though we don't know when.)
