Rose continued to gaze onto Tsuwari with a steady silence. Her mind was frazzled and at a loss. Knowing what had happened tonight was just...well, it was downright horrible. Rose could only imagine it being one of the more unsettling moments in his young life. Such a moment should give her reason to tell him more about why he was treated so differently...
but...
it...
....
Rose exhaled. Could anyone blame her for feeling so gut twisted anxious about it? Explaining more of his heritage would put an end to that innocence. Right now Tsuwari still lived in a world that was simple and for the most part, filled with joy. How could she be the one to crush that?
How could she afford not to?
Wavering between her decision, Rose found herself gnawing on her bottom lip in nervous agitation. When she caught herself, she immediately stopped. Her purple eyes lazily dotted to the freezer where Rose stashed Tsuwari's favorite treat, orange popsicles. Perhaps the conversation would go easier if he had something of comfort...?
No, she chided herself. Probably not.
Swallowing, she called to him as she headed for the couch. "Tsuwari, come sit with me." Time for the talk.

Tsuwari walked inside, and instantly ran for his gamestation. Maybe if he started playing fast enough, Rose wouldn't notice and he'd have leverage to stay up late..
"Tsuwari, come sit with me."
Hoof on the power button, Tsuwari hesitated for a second before slowly standing and climbing onto the soft couch beside his mother.
"I was only gonna play for a minute.." He said, orange eyes wide and pleading, with his best pouty lip to boot.

Rose frowned, more sadly than in a motherly fashion, as Tsuwari mentioned this. She couldn't just back down. If she did...could she ever get the guts up again to talk with him? And with Glayse not around to make things that more difficult?
"Tsuwari..." A heavy sigh. "About what that stallion said today... How did that make you feel?"

The foal instantly sobered at his mother's expression, feeling a sudden pang of fear at the apparent gravity of the situation.
"Tsuwari..." A heavy sigh. "About what that stallion said today... How did that make you feel?"
"The white one?" The foal blinked, referring to Peri, "He was nice.. I think he was really sleepy though." Tsuwari's eyes looked back and forth between Rose's purple ones, trying to read her expression, and unsure what the whole situation was about. The pleasantness of the attention Peri paid him had temporarily overrun the memory of the mean stallion from the Cafe.

"No Sweetie," Rose crooned gently, wrapping an arm around his back and pulling him closer to her. Looking down into his smaller face, she clarrified, "I mean the pony you zapped earlier. In the cafe."

"I mean the pony you zapped earlier. In the cafe."
Tsuwari's ears flattened as he looked away from Rose, and anger bubbled below the foal's fur. When he spoke, his voice was quiet and concise.
"He deserved it," The foal nearly spat, both angry and hurt by the whole incident. "He said I was half evil."
"Mama?" Tsu's expression softened, "Is there something wrong with me?"

"Oh no. No, no, no. Definitely not.," Rose's voice was quick to dismiss the idea. "There's nothing wrong with you, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
She raised her hoof to his head, gently parting his locks in a doting fashion.
"If I had the chance I wouldn't change a thing about you. You're everything I wanted in a foal." A small smile arose, a sad smile. "It's just...a lot of ponies might be mean to you because of the bad pony who was your dad. That doesn't mean you're bad, it just means we have to prove them wrong."
It was so hard just to tell him this. How could Rose even sympathize? She never had to deal with the idea one of her parents was "evil." The worst her child hood ever got was the heated discussions with her mother and the intense pressure of all her floral competitions she'd entered.

Tsuwari's brow furrowed in thought as his mother soothingly stroked his head. Uncharacteristically, he remained silent for what seemed like an eternity.
"Mama," He said slowly, turning back to her, "You don't talk about my dad much," a pause, "Who is he?"

Rose's breath hitched silently. His eyes were so pleading for an answer....just....not yet. Rose fumbled for words as she bit her lip once more.
"He...," she said softly, "Your father was..." She couldn't just say she didn't know. That would be pointless. A gulp. "Your father just did a lot of stuff, is all." Side stepping an answer. But, truthful she returned, "I'm not ready yet to say. And I don't think you're ready yet to know." A pause. "You forgive me, right?"

"I'm not ready yet to say. And I don't think you're ready yet to know." A pause. "You forgive me, right?"
Tsuwari froze in thought a minute, little brows furrowed. All this talk, and she wasn't going to tell him who his dad was? All the stigma surrounding his mysterious father both excited and terrified the small foal. It left him endlessly curious, imagination trying to fill in all the gaps. His father's identity remained a shadow in the back of his mind with no defining features.
Because of Tsuwari's impressionable nature, maybe it was best that Rose not expose him to his evil heritage yet.
"I'd always forgive you, Mama.." Tsuwari said quietly, suddenly a bit fearful of what she did have to tell him. He snuggled closer to the red mare on the couch, burying his small face against her and wrapping his arms loosely around his mother. "cuz I love you."
"I just want to know.."

Rose sighed, there seemed to be a lot of that going around that night, and pulled Tsuwari in closer. "I love you too, Tsuwari. I'm just...not ready to say. I don't know where to begin, or how even to tell you.
"I'm saying this because I love you. I don't want you to be hurt because of this." She lowered her head and pressed her red lips just below his horn.

Tsuwari's brow furrowed slightly, relaxing upon the contact of his mother's kiss. "Will you tell me one day, Mama?"

"Hopefully you'll hear it from me first," Rose honestly said, without giving the issue much direct thought. Tsuwari was likely to be mad at her, yes, concerning his heritage. But he would be furious if the news had reached him through another source entirely. Best to hear it from her. Again, though, the red unicorn just could not bring it to words just yet.
A crimson hoof parted a lock of his white bangs. She continued to smile softly to him, her lips carrying a saddened undertone. "You just have to give me time to find the words. Grown ups...well, we just get the words messed up. If we could still talk like children, everything could get out in the open easier."
"I will tell you this, Tsuwari." That hoof gently roughed up his hair some more. Her purple eyes looked down directly into his day break ones. "Whomever you do hear it from; you'll probably be upset about it, upset with me. And I hope you can forgive me for it." A quick tight squeeze of a hug. "But I'd understand if you didn't."

"Whomever you do hear it from; you'll probably be upset about it, upset with me. And I hope you can forgive me for it." A quick tight squeeze of a hug. "But I'd understand if you didn't."
The little unicorn's ears pinned back a moment, and fear flashed in his orange eyes. Once again his heart began to palpitate, now very much afraid for what his mother would have to tell him someday.
"Mama," His voice was small, "I'd always forgive you.." Tsuwari's trust and love for his mother kept him pacified despite the gravity of the situation. And at that point, his young mind was too tired to think any further on his heritage at the moment. But it wouldn't be something easily forgotten.
With a small sigh and a nuzzle against his mother, Tsuwari leaned against her and closed his eyes halfway. He would have fallen asleep right then and there if not for the large orange stallion entering through the front door.
"Hey honey, I'm home!"
