Crossing the plains and hills from the Valley of the Dreams would have normally been no problem for the ocean green pegasus and her dark blue unicorn husband, but on this trip they had more than just luggage. A bumbling, tall, brown winged horse flew giddily along beside the peg, still amazed at the experiance almost twenty years after crossing the Rainbow Bridge. On the ground were a dark silver earthling, glowing a soft blue, and her husband, a large light blue stallion. On his back was a discoloration of silvery blue, almost a slate gray where the tired child lay. And every twenty feet or so the dark blue unicorn suddenly appeared and then disappeared, only to appear again in twenty more feet. They would be an interesting sight for any, but they called themselves a family, despite their obvious differences. They were travelling to Ponyville not for the town itself, but for a loved one that was there and that a certain dream had caused them distress over. Bella, Canto, Comet, Karma, Koal, and the child were coming for Kailani Hoofspen. (What do you mean I like "k" sounds? That was such a badly written post >.< )

Dark's heart nearly tore itself from his chest. Below him, just a short distance, was his old friends... And lover. "Karma..." Dark's bold courage left him, and he almost felt like turning and running. However, even in the bright sunlight, the sky darkened only faintly as a metalic blue, black and silver Rainbow gently floated around him.
*If you turn your back now, Moon Child, you shall never find the peace you need. This is your final test, Dark. A test of your heart. Your soul and courage were tested and proven in the battle with Piston. Now, you must show virtue and careing. Good luck, Dark; I shall not aid you this time.*
Dark felt both shock and worry at once. He felt the rainbow seperate from him, a void being left; But that void had light within. The light came from Dark's very soul. Even if he had been fused with the Rainbow of the moon, Dark knew he could go without it; He had become a warrior in the past who was strong even without a Rainbow's power. He was that way before, and he would do so again.
Slowly, almost like a ghost, he started to desend the hill, the wind being picked up by the Rainbow's magic. To show Dark's it's pride, the rainbow shifted the sun-lit hill to become iluminated by moon light as the sky darkened. The way the light shined off Dark's pale body and white suit almost gave a white, ghostly aura to the ninja. He paused for a moment, still unsure. A voice from beyond the grave, however, gave Dark the courage he needed.
*Son... I have never been more proud of you than since we met in the past. Even though it tears me apart that you were pulled back to your earthly shell, I could not even hope to be any prouder. You bear not only our Rainbow, but the Sprit Sword, Soul Caliber as well; You have brought only the greatest honor to your mother and I, and I am d**n proud to have a son like you.*
A tear started to form in Dark's eye as the voice of his father, Black, edged him on. A much more gental voice joined his father's.
*I'm proud of you, Dark. No matter what, your father and I will always love you. Even if your father is a jerk. I have faith in you, Dark. Now you need faith in yourself if you are to pass this test. I know you can do it.*
The tear fell from Dark's eye, a Moon Rose blooming from where it landed. "Thank you... Mother." With that, Dark contiuned his ghostly aproch, Lowering his scarf and removeing his mask. *Yes,* Dark thought to himself. *I have indeed changed.* The Rainbow hung overhead, watching.

THe family was still travelling down around the hill when teh sky went dark, the moonlight the only light to travel by. "What in the Rainbow?" Bella said as she stopped and hovered in place. She could see the figure walking towards them and didn't recognize him immediately in the moonlight, so she landed before the others and put her ears back. "Who are you? And what magic is this?"
Karma turned to the aura Bella spoke to and immediatly stumbled back, tripping over her hind leg and falling into a sitting position while her jaw dropped and her eyes grew wide. It couldn't be - after all this time and the worrying and fretting, it couldn't be. But auras never lied, and she could spot this aura easily in a crowd.
"It's ok Bella, "she stood up and walked over to the older peg, placing a comforting hoof on her shoulder, "its Dark." Karma took a couple of timid steps forward and stopped - she wasn't sure what to say to this stallion who she had shared so much with who had suddenly vanished without so much as a goodbye. Several emotions ripped through her body and her glow changed in places from blue to red for a moment, changing back at the opposite emotion took over. Her own aura was changing even more rapidly than the visual one, but she couldn't decide which emotion to stick with, so she simply stood there, starring at him.

Dark soon stoped before Karma, and met her eyes. In the past, Dark seemed to have emotions locked deep inside his neon green orbs. Emotions of hatered at what he was, pain of being forced into the life of a mercenary, the shame of being a ninja... One thing that still hung tight in his eyes was the pain of twenty years in the afterlife, and not haveing told Karma anything.
But something had changed in Dark, aside from his apperence.
For starters, it seemed Dark no longer had the cused blade of his clan, Vampris, the blade that feed on souls. Instead, Soul Caliber let out it's own flowing blue aura, to asure Dark's former love that the weapon held no ill will. Something had also changed in Dark's eyes. They seemed to shine with pride at his heratige, with honor that he was a ninja, and the heavy weight of being a mercinary had been lifted from his sholders. Dark's aura also clearly had the signs of a Rainbow drifting among it. Finally, Dark's voice found itself.
"Before I go into any details, much less a hello, I think I've got a elbow to the ribs that's been held back for twenty years. After you knock me flat on my back for everything, then I can try catching up on what I've left off. Well, to a degree." Dark, eyed Karma's obvious husband, and her child on his back. Dark smiled at the sight. *Well, it's good to know she got on with her life. That eases some of the soon to come pain.* If Karma actualy desided to punch him rather than elbow him, he never had a chance.

Forfeiting the chance to elbow him in the ribs (she could always let her daughter have a go at aura manipulation later anyways) Karma instead threw her forlegs around him in a hug, then backed away sheepishly.
"Rainbows, what happened to you? I was so worried." She couldn't say more than that, mostly because her voice broke at the end and she almost started sobbing, partly because her husband was standing right there and her daughter had woken up and was trying to sit up on his back.
Karma was very unsure what to do, her husband and daughter behind her, the stallion she was supposed to have married before her. She had eventually gone running back to Koal when she realized Dark wasn't coming back - she had never even had the chance to tell him everything, all of her past, which had now been set right. Tears of joy, and regret for what possibly could have been filled her eyes as she starred at him.

Dark shook his head, his eyes filled with twice as much pain a grief than that of what Karma felt. "Karma, let me start with saying I'm sorry for leaveing you. As much as it still tears at my heart like red hot knives being repeatily stabed into my chest, I had no choice in leaveing you. If I did, I would have rather to stay by your side. But..." Dark glanced up at the shimering Rainbow drifting above them.
"One stallion is nothing compared to a Rainbow who seeks said stallion to do it's will. The Rainbow of the Moon took me away, without so much as a word to you... All because Piston had found an all powerful blade, Soul Edge." Tears started to well up in the ninja's eyes. "It was Vampiris, my old sword. In Piston's grasp, it's true form and power awoke. The Rainbow told me I had a choice; Remain with you, and watch you die as the world went with you, or leave you and save the world." Dark lowered his head, ashamed of the truth that was soon to be known.
"I managed to seal Pistn and Soul Edge away... But..." Dark took a deep breath, and clearly got the truth out. "I died in the process!" There. He finally got the painful truth out. "Karma... I spent twenty years in the afterlife, knowing I'd never return. At the very least, I'm happy to see you where able to move on. I only regret I wasn't there for you..." Dark had to get that much out before he mentioned Piston and Kail's fates.

Karma put her hoof up to her mouth as she listened to Dark tell his story. She wanted to to hold him, to sob quietly for all they had lost, but she couldn't do that now. It was hard to imagine what it must have been like for him, to leave as he did, to be dead for twenty years before finally being able to come back and explain to her.
It took all the will she could manage, but Karma was able to tweak her aura slightly to keep from crying and be able to speak. "W...What... What are you doing here then? Why didn't you come back to Dream Valley?"
"He came to fight," Bella suddenly interupted, "it was you I saw in the dream then, friend." She had thought she knew that stallion in the midst of the fighting - she had seen it in her dream. She had seen Kail attack Piston and in turn be attacked herself, and she had seen a pony reminiscent of one she knew, and she had seen Kail fall before the vision ended. And that was why they were here - because Bella's vision's were never wrong, and the fate of their daughter was still unknown. "Did you see what happened to my daughter Dark?"

Dark nodded to Bella. "Yes, I did. I've got to admit, she is one tough cookie. Guess I should have expected she'd be just as strong as her mother and father combined. Theres no need to worry about Piston any longer. Soul Edge is back in the Sprit world where it belongs, and Piston has been freed from the evil that possed him. As for Kail..."
Dark looked up as he crossed his arms. "Well, she's in a bit of a emotional break down at the moment. After all, she had been fused wth the Green Rainbow stripe. I feel a bit sorry for her... After all, I was trained for the day the Rainbow of the Moon would bond with me. She's currently in Razz's shop, downtown." Dark quickly handed Bella a map, the location circled. He then turned to Comet, grinning. "Nice to see you again, goof ball!"
Dark returned to his first train of thought. "Actualy, THAT'S the reason I'm white as a ghost, and back from the dead as fit and youthful as I was when I died! But..." Dark looked away again.
"Shade is dead. He died along with what remained of his warriors. It wasn't Piston who killed them, though. It was the Rainbow of Darkness... Piston's CREATION. Still, even with the time I spent with him in the afterlife, he told me not to cry for him. He died proudly and honorabley, and he is finaly joined with his love. May the Rainbows bless their noble and honorable souls..." Dark nodded at the memmory of his friend, who had finally found peace at long last.

Bella nodded at the news that Kail was ok, "well she has been through more than her father and I combined, so I should hope she's tough enough to handle it. But what is this about being fused with the Rainbow?" Bella looked to Canto with concern and he smiled back reassuringly - whatever their daughter had gotten herself into she would be fine with no doubt.
Comet smiled like the goofball that he still was, "Heya Dark, good to see your back!"
"I'm very sorry to hear about Shade," Bella finally spoke again, "I owe him my life, as does Kail." She bowed her head for a moment, "it is good to know he is at peace." The peg was antsy to get on and find her daughter, but with finding such a good friend on the way, and finally knowing that her daughter was safe, she decided that Kail could wait.
Karma simply stood quiet during the exchange, studying the aura before her that had changed, yes, but still held Dark's almost forgotten signature. Oftentimes she thought she saw it in a crowd somewhere, but she would always realize it was just a mix of a few other auras and her hopeful eyes causing the effect.

Dark would have continued... If it wasn't for a sudden storm forming in the sky. Dark was clearly shocked, for the sky flashed red, not white. In a moment, a red bolt of lightning hit the ground, leaveing pulseing red sword in it. The blade's reptilan eye glare at Dark. Dark could only yell his shock.
"It can't be! THAT'S SOUL EDGE!!!"
Suddenly, a navy blue hoof grabed the hilt. However, the hoof was connected to a enemy Dark would have never imagened that he would lock eyes with. Neon red eyes glared at Dark, his face sealed in a mask beneath a flowing crimson scarf. Dark was stareing at himself. His former EVIL self.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Looks like my weak little good half." Dark's green eyes narrowed in anger. "You can't be real. What kind of sick game is this?!" Dark's twin smirked. "Do you recall all those times Soul Edge cut you in the fight with Piston? It was asorbing me, bit by bit. When you shattered it, I was completely striped from your body. Face it, Dark. I'm your own worst enemy; Your own evil half!"
Dark growled a bit. This was about to become a hopeless fight.

They were shocked, all of them.
"Perhaps now would be a good time to get the little one out of here?" Canto said to both Koal and Karma.
Karma looked back, "you take her someplace safe, I will stay here." She nuzzled Koal quickly, then turned to Bella and Canto, "go, find Kailani, Im staying here."
Bella lifted an eyebrow, but Canto put a hoof around her and turned her away from the dueling Darks. "She is right, let us find our daughter. There is nothing we can do here."
Everyone turned and trotted off towards the village, leaving Karma behind to watch the other two alone.

Dark's eye twiched in fustration. Thanks to draining his evil, Soul Edge had a tie to the physical world. "Well, it's rather clear that you are me... But then again, you aren't because your just a tool for Soul Edge. So what are you REALLY called?" The double seemed to close his eyes as he smiled, amused. "Very well, Dark If that's how you want things, then I'll humor you. You may call me Umbra, after the world of sprits that is a shadow of everything. You are framiler with the place, I know. But then again, so does she, in a way." Umbra pointed at Karma for but a moment. "After all, the aura of a person is their sprit. But that doesn't matter. I'm starting to ramble, instead of kill you."
Dark took a step back from Umbra. "I'm guessing Soul Edge is a tad sour about it's loss at my hooves? Well, it doesn't matter. The end is STILL going to be the same!" Dark drew Soul Caliber from his back, just as a force field rose up around them, just like the battle with Piston. Umbra had a slightly annoyed look apper in his eyes. "A Power Shield? Really, Dark. We both know that this will protect the surounding area from the destruction our battle will cause... Unless you die." Dark scowled right back. "That won't happen. I'll beat you and ensure the destrution our battle causes doesn't happen to the outside world!" Those were the last words spoken before the battle began, both warriors becomeing mear blurs.
Within five minetes of watching from outside, both finally stoped, the area totaly destoyed, and Dark covered with wounds and bloody cuts. Totaly opposite of Dark, Umbra looked totaly unscathed. Within the Power Shield, a full day of battle had passed, and Dark was losing. BADLY.

Well, Karma would like to have helped, but it seems this power shield thing would keep her powers from working inside of it. So she's just gonna sit this one out I guess.

'I can't risk loseing with the Power Shield up. The destruction it would cause would be... Ah, heck. I'm lowering it.' No sooner did Dark finish his thought did the shield fade away. Dark struggled to keep standing as Umbra aproched, much like a wolf closeing in on it's wounded prey. "My, you must be growing weak if you lowered the shield. I was expecting more of a fight! Oh, but I forget! I just used every last tactic you have on you. So, ready to give up yet?"
Dark stumbled a bit as he forced himself to stand, blood gushing freely from his left sholder, which had a horriable cut on it. "You talk too much." Umbra frowned at Dark. His mask and scarf had ben sliced in half a while ago, during Dark's ONLY close shot at him. "Maybe so, Dark. But it serves to annoy you, doesn't it?"

"Rainbows, finally," Karma muttered as she watched the shield fall. She stood up and raised her hoofs above her head, clapping them hard and bringing them down fast, her aura now visible to all. Once more she made the movement, the aura growning stronger and brighter. On the third try, instead of bringing her hoofs straight down she shot them out straight and the color left her body to crumple to the ground.
Creeping up the hill towards the two, the colors swirled faintly against the grass. It twined up Dark's body and Karma's own grew goosebumps with the familiar feel of the two auras meeting. It helped to strengthen him, sealing the wound and changing the whole of his aura to a bright red full of strength and power.
