Okay - so, I'm not sure exactly where these are popular, but in Cali(and I'm pretty sure all of the US) one of the biggest trends right now are the yellow "LIVESTRONG" bands given in exchange for donations to the Lance Armstrong foundation(also popular are the various other-colored rubber wristbands released by companies/charities mooching of Armstrong's idea ).
I've gotta confess - I'm one of the people wrapped up in the trend. There's nothing more satisfying than being the first to get a unique one and having everyone at school going, "Oooh - where'd ya get that one?" ;D
So today I got a fakie pack from KB Toys, with various adult and baby fakies(I've got a soft spot for baby ponies of any sort), and it came with a ton of stuff to fix up the ponies' hair. One of the things it came with was two packs of thick, brightly-colored rubber bands. Well, by looking at them I could tell theyd snap instantly if actually stretched, they would be totally impractical for hair-dos as they were too thick and looked like the type that would melt into a pony's hair if left in for too long, and the color would draw too much attention to the cheap-looking neon things if put in a mane or tail.
But then I realized that they would be perfect pony-sized "hoofbands"! So, I've been writing on them in gel pen and putting them on the ponies, and while they'd look awful in hair, they don't look half-bad around the bottoms of hooves.
So Breezie's got a green one(to match her eyes) with her name on it, and my new Flippity's got a pink one(matching her hair) with "magic" written on it, etc. I think I'll only make them for the Hasbros I rp as.
Anyhow, I just wanted to pitch the idea out there, that if anyone's into the human-sized rubber bands, it's a nice personal touch to have them on your ponies. Y'all might want to start looking for what ya'd need to make them, becasue personally I think they're a cute way to add to the overall affect of the look of a pony.
