Aedeminar stood over the body of Emerald Shadow. Except for the one wound--and the scars of a dozen old ones--Emerald looked young and asleep. And at peace. After thirty years, she was at peace...
"You were always the daughter of my heart, dear Emerald. You came to me so broken you tried to drown yourself in my Tower's pool, not even knowing who or where you were. I knew that pain! And I knew, too, your confusion, when after throwing yourself into the rainbow waters you found that you could not die. After all....I did that same thing...the immortailty those waters grant is more curse than blessing. Still...I like to think that I helped to heal you, at least as much was possible in this life... Oh, what a student you were! Only the daughter of my body has ever matched you. Strange, though...you were to be one of the immortal watchers with me. The powers of my pool are potent...but I suppose that the power of a god combined with a desperate desire to finally die could overcome even the strongest magic."
The ancient grey mare lowered her head, the tips of her long, wavy black mane brushing the ground. "Maybe, one day, I'll find a way to join you. Shadoweaver is coming into her powers...we trained her well together, you and I. I think she can take my place in the world. In the meantime...I think I can find where your beloved is buried. Let me take you home, my love." Aedeminar touched Emerald Shadow gently with one hoof, and they both vanished.,
