[[Now I was thinking that any good town usually has a market, because that's where the town has usually actually grown from - from this little square where people come to sell every sort of a thing they've made themselves etc, and then the rest of the town has sort of grown around it... so I was thinking that it might be nice if Ponyville had a market place too, on the town square or something. So I decided to post Gib as taking her veggies to the town square to sell them, and if people think we might have more use for a market than just this thread (every passing by salesman and street magician and the like could gather there to offer their products or perform etc) then maybe we could? Anyway, it's just a suggestion, but I think Gib would definitely be selling these veggies of hers on the town square/market, since she likes this old-fashioned way. And aren't fairs just fun sometimes? ]] Rogue and Tramp put the booth up very carefully according to Gibberish's instructions. For her, everything needed to be exactly right on her booth, because she was always afraid that the whole thing would collapse on her. So the twins helped her get it up and then she placed her carrots and the cauliflowers and the reston the little boxes she had made for them, and put up the signs that told how much each good cost. She examined them carefully and then nodded, satisfied, and went behind the booth to wait for customers. Rogue looked at her with an uncertain expression in his eyes. He wasn't so sure if she was going to get any customers. Well, her prices were certainly cheaper than the ones in grocery stores, but would anyone come to the square to buy anything from her? Had people outgrown the old-fashioned markets? Well, in small towns the markets were very important still, he knew, he had been to many, but this was a bigger city. Rogue glanced at the clear sky above him and then shrugged. Ah, well, perhaps someone would pop by. Somehow Gibberish had coped all these years. Tramp looked at his brother. "I think I'll... hmm, go off to grab a bite," he said, his eyes going around nervously. There was something quite else he meant to do after eating, but first he wanted to go have something to satisfy his hunger with. He really didn't want to show up on Fluttershy's doorstep with a growling stomach. Rogue looked at his brother and smiled, understanding well what it was that he really wanted to go do, and that he really wanted to go alone. "Go ahead," he said and nodded. "I think I'll be Gib's first customer." He turned to the mare with one of his most charming smiles. "I'll have five carrots, please." Gibberish flashed him a nervous smile, feeling the warmth of the sphere within her tresses. She shifted a little and her hooves moved jerkily as she started counting carrots from the box into a little pouch. She always feared someone would see the ball, despite every effort she did to hide it. Tramp smiled to his brother once more, nodded his head for goodbye and trotted off, to the nice Café he recalled seeing somewhere during his last visit. Rogue remained to chat with Gibberish, offering to help her with the booth for the day. [[For Tramp's part, cont. at the Cotton Candy Café]]

Hollow looked around him on the square, thoughtful. He wondered what he should have done next. He had not been here in years. How long had it been? It seemed like everything had changed, even if it still remained the same. He remembered being young here, and full of life. He remembered playing on this square with his friends... he wondered if any of them still lived here? He might find out. Or perhaps not. It might be best to leave old scars unrubbed.
Slowly Hollow walked to the centre of the square, letting the sun warm his corn-coloured body and glisten on his black mane. It was so strange to touch these cold stones again. To look at these houses around, to breath this air. He hadn't thought he would ever return here. He asked himself why it was that he had. Had he missed Ponyville somehow? Had he thought he would regain his youth by coming here?
I will forever look like I'm in my mid-thirties, but inside I will always be an old stallion, Hollow thought to himself bitterly as he began to pace around the square, unable to force himself to explore the city just yet. I wanted to be young forever, but I have become eternally old instead.
He sighed, then tossed his head angrily, attempting to shake away his dark thoughts.

Rogue paid little attention to the corn-coloured stallion. His main interest was in Gibberish. He had known her for years, practically saved her life, too, but he had never got very close to her. Not that Rogue had bothered with trying before. He had originally taken Gib in for pity, when her mother had abandoned her. Her strange nervous antics had never bothered him much, in the end. He had deemed her a bit sad, but never dangerous.
Now, Rogue was wondering if she could actually be useful. He had caught a few glimpses of the strange sphere she had in her hair, and the large stallion he had talked to some months back had slipped something that made Rogue think this just might be the magic item the stallion was looking for. Now Rogue had two questions: first, why the stallion was so desperate to find the sphere and second, would it be more useful for Rogue to take possession of the thing and return it to the stallion, or keep it himself?
Of course, the more pressing problem currently was that Gib was not about to part with the object easily. She had been guarding it for years now, successfully, and shown great unwillingness to even admit she held such an object. Rogue wasn't sure if she knew he knew of it. It would make everything more difficult if she did.
Rogue smiled to Gib as he attempted to engage her in a relaxed conversation about the weather and how it must affect her crops. Now the most important thing was to have her trust him again, and more deeply than before. Then, perhaps, she would let him look more closely at the sphere.

Triple Treat trotted quickly along, looking for any give-away streak of purple. Little Glitterlilly had run off this morning in a tizzy, and he was hoping to find her. Usually she was surprisingly self sufficiant - no- more then self-sufficiant since she cared for her father as well as herself. But she'd seemed more and more anxious and moody as the months wore on her. He'd thought moving from the Nursery and nearer to her would help, and it had, but not altogether much.
He'd been heading to the Nursery, since she often went there to find company. Also, he knew that Kail would be leaving soon, and he wanted to catch her before she did. Sister Swirl hadn't given him all the details, but he still wanted to be friendly. Still friends, no hard feelings, all of that. Golly, he missed her.
The chef in him couldn't help but spot the wonderful, beautiful, fragrant, bright vegetables being sold fresh from a stand. Those fresh veggies would be so good for growing foals! How could he pass up a chance to splurge on healthy food for the kids?
He walked up to the booth and smiled broadly. He was tall enough to have to duck down slightly to get a better look. "Wow, these all look great. I just know the kids at the Nursery will love some of these. Did you grow them yourself?"
He glanced up and shook some hair out of his eyes, happy to find a gourmet gardner. He looked around at the other nearby stallions and gave them a quick smile and a nod, trying to decide if they were buying vegetables too, or if it was ok for him to be taking up so much room at the stand.

Gibberish was very happy to see someone actually interested in her vegetables instead of just coming there to keep her company, like Rogue did. Well, it was very kind of him to buy something as well, but she preferred real customers. She smiled to the new stallion.
"Yes," she answered to the stallion's question. "I have this small patch outside of town. The carrots are really good this year, you know." She paused for a moment. "Though, of course, there's nothing really wrong with the cauliflowers either, or the turnips. They are especially good for foals... though of course, I wouldn't know much about that, having no foals myself."
She blushed a bit.

Rogue nodded to the other stallion for a greeting, smiling in a friendly manner. He felt better for noticing that Gib actually had some customers coming in now and then. He had been getting a little worried that she might not be doing so well because of never selling anything. Of course, she wouldn't starve or anything, having the vegetables, but she would be better off if she could work out some income.
Hollow, on his part, glanced back at the stallion but didn't show any sign of interest. He was still too caught up in his dark thoughts.

They are especially good for foals... though of course, I wouldn't know much about that, having no foals myself."
Treat smiled broadly, his dimple showing. He started gathering bunches of carrots, cauliflowers, and turnips. "Well, I don't have any foals of my own either, but many of the kids at the Nursery are orphans so I try to help watch them. Or rather, I try to help Sister Swirl and the others watch them." He grinned, lookings slightly abashed. "I like children, but I'm honestly better at cooking then I am at watching a lot of them all at once. I appreciate your suggestions, I think the turnips will be really good for them." He smiled again, feeling at ease with Gibberish. She seemed a little...squirrely...but earnest and sweet.
He put the vegetables aside and pulled open the bag hanging at his side, "These are just lovely, I'll have to come back. What will I owe you?"

Gibberish wasn't sure how she should have acted with the stallion. He seemed nice enough, but the suspicion shot through her like an electric bolt. What if he just wanted to be friendly to get closer to her to get closer to her secret? No one must find out about her secret. It was her secret, hers, hers, hers...
She stopped herself with great restraint from going on and on with that thought and flashed a nervous smile when the stallion asked for the price. She mentioned a convenient price which she knew to be a bit lower than that of the nearby grocery store but enough to be worth her while. She started moving a carrot back and forth on the table, staring down with a blush still lingering on her cheeks. The stallion was just too friendly, she didn't know how to behave.

Rogue smiled with one corner of his mouth, glancing at Gib. He was happy to see her get so nervous. It was all in his favour if she didn't trust anyone else except Rogue himself.
Hollow had listened to the conversation with a half an ear, and upon the mention of the Nursery he turned his head and stepped a little closer.
"You help at the nursery?" he asked, some amount of urgency in his voice. "Tell me, have you ever seen a pale pink unicorn mare there? With white hair?"
Hollow figured that if Twilight was anywhere near, Nursery would probably be one of the places she would like going to, loving foals as she did.

Treat paid in full, then rooted out the smallest carrot and gave it a nibble. It was good! Juicy and full of flavor, not dry and gravelly tasting like the ones shipped in from far places.
"Yum, I'll have to come back," he said around a mouthful. He quickly swallowed. "How often are you here?"
Treat turned to look at Hollow, pondering his question. "I'm sorry man, but I haven't been there as much as I used to..." The slightest flit of a sad frown twinged his smile. "Though, it's fine to stop by yourself. " He smiled reassuringly. One of Swirl's friends seemed to have been always looking for someone, so he was sure it was fine.

Hollow nodded to the stallion, relieved that Twilight hadn't been seen in the Nursery. He didn't really want to meet her. Her eyes unsettled him. But sure, he might go by the Nursery in any case. Children were often such better company than adults.
"I might come by," he said politely.

In the meantime Gibberish had trouble deciding whether she was pleased about the stallion's interest in her vegetables or bothered by it. On the one hand she did get lonely at times, but on the other, ah, well, she did like company now and then. Then she reminded herself that the stallion was of course only interested in her vegetables and nothing more. Therefore she was safe.
Or was she? was the lingering afterthought that coloured her speech as she opened her mouth again.
"I come every week," she answered to the stallion with a nervous smile, not meeting his eyes.

Hollow paced around nervously a few moments, indecisive. His mind was flooded with thoughts and feelings he pushed back deep inside. There was no room for feelings in his world anymore.
After many moments of nervous, jagged pacing, he finally forced himself on the move, nodding his goodbyes to Rogue and Gibberish, and then he headed for the streets of Ponyville. He had come here to look around the town he had once lived in. Now it was the time to gather the nerve to actually go and look around.

(ooc: sorry I wasn't posting, real life happens sometimes meep ) TT watched Hollow go, realizing that he'd been on a mission to find his wee little friend, but had gotten sidetracked. He figured that Glitterlilly was resourceful enough to be somewhere safe. She was probably getting fed or cared for, the kid really had no idea how lucky she was, all things considered. "Er, every week?" His words stumbled around his private thoughts. "Wonderful!" He shook his head, focusing on Gibberish and smiling encouragingly. "Maybe I could take one or two of the foals here to pick out their own vegetables." And maybe if they pick them out they'll actually eat them, the turkeys.

[[ah, it's quite all right. Real life does that ]] Gibberish smiled, her thoughts jumping back into selling vegetables again. "Yes, yes, do bring them along," she said. "My vegetables are always fresh, you know, since I bring them straight from the patch. I daresay my carrots are better than those from the grocery store. I never go there myself. Well, occasionally, for some spices, perhaps, and things like that, but I don't like going to stores very much. But yes, I'll be here again next week, or if you want to bring the foals around later today, I'll be here for some time longer." She realised she was blabbering, and stopped with great difficulty.
