Rose swallowed hard, but tried desperately to hide the breaking in her tough appearance. Much as she hated to say, Rose was still a child herself, not even twenty, and had a lot to learn about parenting. Never a time crossed her that Rose even considered how Tsuwari would react to her constant over watching eyes.
No, he wouldn't just start sneaking about me...I'd never.... her thoughts trailed as she recalled that she most certainly did sneak about her parents. That doing such a behavior was capable of happening. Much as this sudden revelation hit her, Rose tried to mentally deny it a moment more before giving up her earlier intentions of protecting Tsuwari's physical health.
"I can give guidance, if that is what you seek, but I cannot give you what your mortal mind cannot comprehend in its own fashion. Do not allow yourself to think you can scrutinize the mind of a god."
"Teach me what you can, then. Rainbow knows that the organ in your head must be far too complex comprised of all it's neo-cytes and the second layer of a cerebral cortex, right?," Rose replied back haughtily, trying to regain a hoof hold of that firm emotion she had moments before. Certainly Rose was aware that there were no nerve cells in the brain, or if a second layer of a cerebral cortex even was possible of existing, but the unicorn was spouting it as a spur of the moment come back. Then again, it was likely that if Set was as old as he claimed than it was likely that these terms were unfamiliar to him.
"I suppose you are right, though," the red unicorn forced herself to stay, much as she hated it. "It's possible for anyone to ge-"
"MAMA"
Rose's head jerked instantly to the direction of the voice. It seemed her body moved instantly without having ordered herself to do so. Seemingly her reaction seemed not fast enough for Set, and after a moment of him pushing her ahead did she finally pull out of his touch and towards the room. With little more than a quick breath of air and a flick of Tsuwari's bedroom lights was the relief that Tsuwari was at least still in his room and unhurt wash over her. Heart still beating furiously, Rose walked briskly to his bed and wrapped the orange foal tight hug. "Don't worry, mama's here, shhh, it's all right," she nuzzled him, "Everything's all right."

"No it's noooooot!" The trembling foal sobbed into his mother's chest. "No it's noooot..." He clung tightly to her, choking out sobs. "It was gonna get you and I saw it and and and... Mamaaa.." Tsuwari would not be easily pacified. This had been one of the worst, and surprisingly real, nightmares he'd ever had in his short life.

Tsuwari certainly had a good grip on some of the strings in his mother's heart, because they certainly were given more than a good tug just then. Miscluding Glayse as the culprit (Rose still had a hard time fathoming Glayse wanting to show images of bodily harm of her), Rose simply believed that it must have been his subconscious releasing some amount of stress. Though where Tsuwari had received this stress was beyond Rose Rebellion, and neither was it her primary concern.
The unicorn squeezed him tightly. "All right now, take a deep breath," she tried to instruct him, not entirely sure of the best cure for his fears. "I'm right here, see?" She gave him a tight hug and a kiss for reassurance, "And I'm fine, you're fine. Neither of us are hurt, see?" She forced a smile on her face and wiped the tears gently from his face. "Nothing's going to happen to me, I promise."

Slowly, Tsuwari loosened his hold on Rose, sitting up a little on his own, but still staying close to her. After a few minutes of deep breathing and his mother's relaxing coaxes, the little orange-red foal began to calm down. "Mama.." He leaned forward and hugged her tightly, as tight as he could. Tsuwari then sat up again, a startling look of anger upon his face. "No, they won't get you, Mama.." His eyebrows furrowed, and his little horn began to emit a snapping, sparkling glow that neither of them had ever seen happen to him before. Pupils becomming slightly smaller, he looked at Rose with a face that could have been Glasye himself, years younger.
"It's not gonna get you, because if it tries to... I'm going to KILL it first."

The vibrant color in Rose's cheeks paled as Tsuari's voice spoke words and at a tone Rose never wanted to hear in her life. It frightened her in ways she couldn't imagine, and fearing the worse Rose clung to him in another tight hug, much how Tsuwari grasped her.
"Rainbow don't say that! Please, of please don't speak like that ever again," she pleaded with him, her voice cracking as she could feel the oncoming of tears starting. "Nothing will get me, so please, please don't kill anything!"

Tsuwari's little body still trembled, though now it was mostly out of a new-found inner rage. Not really understanding how something you felt so strongly could be something worrisome or bad, the little foal didn't try much to suppress his thoughts or emotions. It felt natural to him... all too natural.
"But it didn't look like it would, and it did," He explained through Rose's pleas, "If I got it first, it wouldnt' have hurt you. If something tries to hurt you, Mama, I want to kill it." Again his voice seemed to drop into almost a growl. Tsuwari's face, though primarily angry, displayed wide, almost mesmerized eyes. "I won't let anything take you away, Mama." He looked at her, something burning beneath the surface.

Rose did not suppress a tiny sob upon hearing Tsuwari's continuation. It was too much for her to hear. She was sick in the depths of her stomach, and all she wanted was for Tsuwari to just calm down.
"Tsuwari, that was a dream," she sputtered out, "Just a dream. It won't happen, I promise! So please, please just calm down."
Needless to say, Rose had forgotten to point out that she thought herself capable of protecting herself. Hadn't she survived in a battle against the Dark Rainbow? Sure a part of the time her mind was a little absent with the fight, but she was a live. Then again, Rose forgot to remind herself that she was not the brightest in picking her fight with Piston. Regardless, if the situation should ever occur, the rebellious unicorn hadn't the shadow of a doubt that she could handle herself. There wouldn't be a need for this aggression her foal suddenly had.
"Please?"
(awww, Tsuwari's tugging at my heart)

"Yes, Mama.." Tsuwari gradually relaxed, the furious expression faded from his face. He leaned his head against her shoulder wearily, still trembling now and then in exhaustion. He knew he had to obey her.. for now. As far as Tsuwari was concerned, this was the way things would always be. He had no notion of things to come, or how difficult his life might prove to be. Even less was he aware of who his father really was, or was capable of being.
Tsuwari didn't say much else. Despite how he obeyed his mother's wishes for the moment, he still felt the hate in his heart. He was aware of that feeling almost as if his life had previously been incomplete without it. He knew he'd fight someday, or something along those lines would happen. He knew it all too well deep inside. Mama doesn't like that kind of talk..He thought to himself, So I'll have to remember not to say anything about it... but if anything tries to get her.. I WILL get it.

Rose let out a more relieved sigh, as she too forced her own dramatics to subside in turn with Tsuwari. She took the time to remove what had been of her tears before returning her foreleg around in embrace about Tsuwari.
This had been a new experience for her, and now being able to briefly reflect over it, Rose knew that she was completely unprepared. What if Set was right? What if Rose couldn't keep protecting him like this? If she lost her cool know, than what about the future? What would happen if he were so mad and furious that Rose couldn't stop him from making the mistake?
With a clenched jaw, her eyes slowly moved to Set still in the hall, then returned them back to her foal. Things were proving to become quite complicated.

With a small sigh and a relaxing movement, Tsuwari leaned against his mother and let his eyes close half way. He had gotten quite worked up, and already way past his bedtime, he quickly felt exhausted and weak. Having his mother beside him made it all the easier for him to fall asleep again, though he didn't want to sleep knowing that she would leave him in there.
Lurking just out of sight in the hallway, Glasye's ghost hovered near Set, Is this the effect you wanted? He asked, a grin in his voice. He pictured the dream in its entirety, hoping Set could pick up on it and be aware of what Tsuwari actually saw.

Set lingered in the shadows outside the room, watching mother and child as they embraced. His ethereal aura flicked its tail as if swatting flies. He had seen the dream sequence.
It shall serve its purpose, he said to Glayse. Stick around a while longer...not that I was expecting you to leave.
Set strode in. His eyes strayed into every dark corner of the room as he passed around the bed making his inspection. Large nostrils flared. Glayse's scent was everywhere. Set came to stand beside the bed and looked down on the child.
Tsuwari's anger was soft and subtle in its unconditioned state. Set desired to feed. He found himself nibbling on its edges before drawing back. Anger was all the more delicious when slow-cooked in its own savory juices.
Set reached out, tousling the boy's forelock in an affectionate manner, disquising from him the small spell he was casting. "Sleep," he said. "Sleep and dream no dreams. Your mother shall watch over you. And I shall watch over her."

Oh, I intend to stay.. believe me. I think both of us can.. benefit.. from the situation, Glasye replied, careful to keep most of his more malicious and selfish thoughts to himself. He couldn't afford to displease a god, given the state he was in--the non-physical kind.
Tsuwari looked up at Set with his sunset eyes, falling victim to the god's power over him. He mumbled nonsense quietly as his eyelids grew heavy, eventually closing off the conscious world. The little orange-red foal gently fell into a peaceful sleep at his mother's side, and as Set had said, no bad dreams came.

The red unicorn cradled her son, her embrace as tight as she could make it without suffocating him. She was scared, of was she scared for Tsuwari. It had never happened before, not like this. Tsuwari was prone to his childish fits; any foal was, but Rose could never recall any foal speak so venomously as this, or tremble as such.
The rebellious unicorn was taught something just now; she was not prepared at all for what was to come. At this time, any doubts in her mind had vanished, her final decision unwavering.
Softly, she murmured to the god, "What do you want me to do?"

"Swear your allegiance to me," Set whispered softly. "Swear and your word is your bond." Inside he was a like a small foal about to open the largest gift under the Winterlight tree.

"I swear it then," she responded without so much a quiver of hesitation. Her fate was sealed.
