From the depths of the shining, cool stream jumped a white pony with a blue fin. She crawled up on land and looked around.

Spookytale had been ambling alongside any major waterways near town looking for Binnacle. Even though it was a stormy day, Spooky knew that Binnacle liked the water and her friend might be around there. She liked the input he gave about stories, and she wanted to tell him one.
Up ahead she spotted a pony with a....fin? Was it a seapony?
"Hello?" Spooky tentatively cried out, "Hello, do you know Binnacle?"

A pony came closer. "Hello" She tentatively cried out, "Hello, do you know Binnacle?" Cascade had never seen a pony up this close before, (even tought it was´nt that close anyway). At first, she made an attempt to jump back into the water, but stopped and gave a wink. "No, sorry, I do not", she called back, rather nerveous.

Spookytale came a little closer, but when she heard the news her head drooped. She noticed that this pony seemed to have 2 front legs - a hippocampus? How fascinating!
All the same, she hoped Binnacle was ok.
"Oh, well thank you." She stopped, reluctant to see the fascinating new pony go. Did she have any interesting stories about being a hippocampus, Spooky wondered.
"My name is Spookytale." Spooky paused, unsure of where to go from there. "I just bought a waterproof stargazing book, and I was hoping to test it." She waved the book feebly.

"I am Cascade, a merpony", said Cascade. She looked a little confused. "A waterproof stargazing book? What´s that?"

"Well, it's a book for helping to find constellations and planets. It has information about the celestial sphere." Spooky flipped through the book, it's pages felt unusually soft, like a jackalope. "This one is supposed to be resistant to water damage, so it can get wet without ruining anything. I don't know if the waterproofiness works or not."

"Are you sure that you should try, what if you ruin it?" Cascade wagged her tail a little. "Er - who is Binnacle, anyway? Has something happened?"

Spooky's ears flipped back at the suggestion that something had happened to Binnacle, but then they slowly uprighted themselves. After all, if something really horrible had happened that would have made him much easier to find, not harder. At least for Spooky.
"Binnacle is my friend, and he, uh, spends a lot of time near water." She ended rather lamely, but she didn't want to give away his secret.
"That's why I got the book, so he could borrow it if he wanted. Ummm....would you like to see it?"

"Sure". Cascade did not mean to hurt Spookytale´s feelings. She just wanted to help.

Spooky fairly bounced forward, passing the book to Cascade.
"Innit neat?"

"Yeah". Cascade looked trough the book, and then passed it back over to Spooky. As her hooves were a little wet, she hoped that she had´nt damaged it.

Spooky looked at the wet spots on the pages. She didn't see any runny ink. Experimentally she rubbed it, and the paper didn't warp or damage at all. The water beaded up like it would on glass or plastic. Spookytale hrrrrmed, then looked at Cascade. Then she looked at the book. Then she looked at the river. Then back at the book, and back at Cascade. Then she tossed the book in.

The book disappeard with a splash. Cascade watched it. "Do you want me to pick it up?" She helpfully asked afer a moment.

"Uh, yeah." Spookytale blushed slightly. "I hadn't really thought it through."

Cascade smiled. She dived into the water and got the book. Up at the surface she handed it over to Spooky again.
