(cont. from Home Again)
Spring Fever dashed over to the hemlock forest. She slowed to a trot as she neared the edge, and forced the memories down. Entering the forest, she thought she heard someone talking. Her hopes soared as she quietly walked in. She could make out what looked like 3 ponies only a small distance away. She trotted quickly over to the one standing by himself. As she got closer, she realized that it was High Tide. "Tide!" she called out in excitement, "I was hoping you'd be here!" She then glanced over to the 2 other ponies standing 10 feet away. It was too dark to tell who they were, but it appeared to be a stallion and a mare.

Mace was not at all pleased with the fact that there were two ponies in his territoy. He walked up to High Tide and said, "I don't think I need to introduce myself to scum like you, now out! This is my territory." Tink frowned, it seemed Mace was having some difficulties. "My name is Tink, and the grey stallion here is my boyfriend, Mace."

"Sorry," High Tide mumbled irritably. He started to walk away when Spring came running up. "Spring Fever!" he called out, surprised, "What are you doing here?"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Spring was glad to see Tide, but she thought she hadn't heard correctly when the mare Tink said she was with her boyfriend, Mace. She gasped, and her breathing quickened. "Mace?"

Tink just laughed.

Spring Fever was puzzled at what Mace was saying. What had High Tide and Mace been talking about? And who was this Tink? "Why are you back?" Spring asked her old friend, "Why have you come back now? And what's going on?"
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
High Tide gave Spring a blank stare. "You know this guy?"

"A, I wanted to show Tink my place, B, I think I just answered that question, C, this puny little stalllion is in my territoy! unless you missed the mass slaughter and huge battle at the castle yesterday!" Mace was completely exasperated with Fever.

"Mass slaughter?" Spring asked shocked, "Why didn't I find out about this? I'm going to have to go back to town...." she trailed off. Mace wasn't the same as she remembered him. He had called High Tide a puny stallion. He was not puny, he was at least as big as Mace himself. And he seemed annoyed with her. Her old friend, who had left and she had missed. She found she had nothing to miss. She was getting angry, a thing which usually never happened to her. She didn't want to get in an argument with Mace or his bratty girlfriend. You should be ashamed of yourself Spring thought to herself, You don't even know Tink. I'm sure she's a nice mare. All the same, she was so mad at Mace, she hated his girlfriend too. "Let's get out of here High Tide." she said, with slight annoyance in her tone. "There's nothing here for us." *~*~*~*~*~*~*~
High Tide ignored the fact that Mace had called him puny. He didn't care in the least. What he cared was that Spring Fever seemed hurt at how this stallion was acting. "Yeah let's head out," he replied to Spring. "Are you ok?" he whispered to her. She seemed let down, so he nuzzled her. She smiled and he brightened up a bit. Spring rested her head on Tide's neck, and he smiled contentedly, forgetting about Mace and Tink.

Tink looed around, "Ummm, not to be rude, but WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE?" Mace bit his lip "Long story, short ending."

Spring turned away from Mace. Part of her still missed him. From the bottom of her heart, she knew that she still cared for her him, still thought of him as a friend. But those days were over, long gone. She just wanted to leave and find out what had happened at the castle.

Tink was getting very frustrated. She dashed around in front of Spring fever and High Tide. "Who are you?" Tink frowned, looking directly into Spring fever's eyes and tehn smiled "I think Spring, that High Tide is just annoying him a bit, he never got along with other stallions. The slaughter at teh castle, well... longs tory, but basically the Rainbow of Darkness took over and today has been a long day. The castle is in ruins, and it wasn't quite mass slaughter, jsut an attack, Mace is just a bit grumpy because he lost to Caliban and was nearly suffocated." she grinned, hoping this explained it all, or at least most of it.

Spring looked at Tink suspiciously when she said her name. She didn't know how Tink knew it. Her jaw dropped as Tink explained what had been happening. "What-I-but...." she stuttered, not thinking straight. How could the castle be in ruins?

"Umm, turns out rainbows are very powerful, but methinks I want to hear this long story with a short ending." she glared at Mace. "Don't look at me like that, its a painful history, you already know part of it." Mace was rather hurt by that look and his ears folded straight back against his skull showed it.

Spring stopped and turned back to Mace. She looked anywhere but in his eyes so he wouldn't see the hurt of the past. She wouldn't leave just yet, but she didn't want all the past pain flooding back when she had done so good to keep it under control since this afternoon.

"Am I forgiven for my, ah, impolite, behaviour yet?" Mace cocked one ear back forward and grinned hopefully. Tink laughed again, oh goodness, this wasn't funny, but it was troubling enough to push to the edge of hysteria. she walked over to kiss Mace and try to stop laughing.

Spring looked up at Mace when he asked to be forgiven and she brightened up. "Yeah," she said calmly.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
High Tide felt better when Mace asked for forgiveness. He hated it when Spring was sad. He turned back to the couple (Tink and Mace o' course) and wondered what they meant about the castle in ruins and wondered how Spring knew Mace.
