The wind was changing. With it came a familiar boat sailing on a familiar river. Brown and white locks were blown back as he stood at the wheel. A glint in those brown eyes. He was nearing a town he’d once fought for. A town in which he had almost settled down.
What would Jewel be like now? Even more beautiful than the last time he had seen her he suspected. The griffin had grown too he imagined.
What would she think his returning after all of this time? Would she be happy? Was she upset by his departure? Did she wear the bracelet made of pearly seashells he had left behind for her? Was there ever once she had thought of him in all this time? Had she missed him?
The brown stallion shook his head to clear the questions away. Two hoop earrings clinked together from the movement. It was silly and he knew it. After all of this time, why should she even remember him? He knew better than to think she’d have waited for his return. A possibility always lingering in the back of her mind that maybe, just maybe he would never return to her again. Who in their right mind would wait forever for someone when they didn’t know if that someone would ever come back to them.
Brown eyes were focused forward. Before the day was over, he would be docked near the town. Than soon he would see that beautiful pegasus again. That one he had not been able to erase from his mind.

The minutes seemed to slow, dragging out in a way. The closer he got to the town the slower time seemed to creep by. A smile tugged at the corners of the gypsy’s mouth. It almost felt like he was returning home. But that was silly. The sea was his home. Wasn’t it?
Blinking he brushed the thought from his mind. Yes, the sea was home. No piece of land could be. How could it ever be home? Never moving always the same. No, it couldn’t be. A gypsy may be many things but permanent in a town? Not likely ever.
Steering the boat expertly he watched as the thick woods along the river changed. Trees melted away, farms appeared. Slowly the farms faded from view and a castle came into view. His heart raced. He was back!
The smile was now wide upon his face as he watched for the familiar spot his boat had been docked at for months. With any luck his shed would still be standing.

Eyes scanned the riverbank. If he blinked he would surely miss it. It wasn't a proper dock, just a sort of dip in the side of the bank with a few wood planks that been nailed together long ago. Many of the planks were cracked and weathered. A fair share of them needed replacing. He didn't care though. It had character. Something those large sea ports often lacked.
Spotting a clearing with a shed standing tall, Roux began to steer the boat into the would be dock. Letting the anchor lower he quickly set about securing the sails. The last thing he needed was damaged sails.
Giving the boat a once over he was satisfied that everything was as it should be. Placing a hoof on the rail he jumped over the side as though it were nothing more than a twig in his path. The planks creaked and groaned as he strode away from his boat.
As much as he wanted to go traipsing down the dirt path straight into town, he told himself not yet. He had to get a few things in order first. After all it had been a long trip back. And rainbow only knew what sort of state his shed was in.
The shed looked all right. A little weathered from the winter, but still in tack. As he neared it a hoof stepped right through a plank that had been covering a long forgotten badger's home. Removing his hoof from the splintered wood Roux examined the hole carefully. It was fairly obvious that nothing had lived there in sometime. So there was no harm in covering over it again he figured. After all he certainly couldn't leave such a dangerous hole near his shed. All too easy to forget and break a leg in.
Whistling a lively tune he set out to find a few fallen branches or a tree.

((hope you don't mind... I'll move to a new post if you do))
A small golden sparkle in the sky soon formed into the figure of a descending pegasus. Mane and tail swept like ribbons in the wind, Jewel gracefully touched upon the soft earth near the water's edge. After folding her wings back against her sides, the pegasus leaned down for a quick drink, then raised her head and tossed her brown-to-purple mane.
A quick look around confirmed some large, relatively flat river rocks at the edge of the water, elevated high enough as to ensure not being splashed by the rainbow waters. A few supple leaps with the aid of her wings landed Jewel upon one of the larger, flatter stones, about five to six feet above the water level. Oh, how nice the sun was on a day like this!
In a few minutes, Jewel was stretched out on the warm rock, dozing away in sunbathing bliss.

Another ribbon in the wind descended towards the river, flitting here and there but always in the same path towards the sunbathing pegasus. When it reached her, the partial indigo stripe of the Rainbow entered on her breath and Jewel's body glowed with a bright indigo light, visible down the river nearly to town.
Jewel, you have fought for me before and put your faith in me without my asking. This is my gift, this is my request, fight for me again and I will make you a Champion. I will give you the power you were promised by the False Ones, and with it I will give you energy and life, never take it away. Arise child, and become one of the Rainbow's children.

Within a few brief seconds, the indigo stripe had permeated the pegasus's body. Jewel partially sat up at the shock of feeling something enter her body, but was quickly and easily calmed by the presence of the Rainbow. As she tried to look for the culprit, all she could see was a purplish light, a bright light at that. Every fiber of her being felt warm and fulfilled beyond anything she had ever felt before.
Here she lay, in a warm, foggy, purplish haze. She could hear the chime-like voice of the mage spirit somewhere in her mind, but it was drowned out by another, more powerful voice. The voice that explained her destiny.
As the indigo cloak dissipated from the pegasus's eyes, she blinked hard a few times and took in her surroundings. Just the same as they had been before, though something was noticibly different. Something inside.
"Do you accept?" Prophet asked, voice clear once again. "This is destiny calling you, child. Erase the doubt from your mind--you were chosen for a reason beyond those either of us can comprehend."
"Yes," Jewel said softly, trying still to digest everything that had been said. The force of the Rainbow of Light was one that was not easily ignored, let alone easily unaccepted. The pegasus smiled, filled with a light, fluttering feeling. "I accept."
Just then, something struck the pegasus just above and between her purple eyes, in the place where a unicorn horn would have sprouted. The pegasus felt the impact, though there was no pain involved. She shook her head a moment, not knowing what it could have been.
She looked at the multi-colored river, and licked her lips. Maybe a nice, cool drink would help clear her thoughts.
Jewel glided off the rock where she had been sunbathing, and daintily set her feet at the water's edge.

The pegasus bent to drink, but as soon as her muzzle touched the water, a scene flashed before her eyes. She gasped, and raised her head, holding her breath. What was that? A ...ship?Jewel turned her head with a quizzical frown, staring at the water for a moment. It was then that she noticed something purple on her reflection's forehead. Peering closer, she deciphered a purple four-pointed star over what looked like the outline of an eye. The mare raised a hoof and rubbed the place on her forehead, wondering if it would come off. Another glance to the water concluded that this wasn't so. It was stuck. Leaning close to the water again, Jewel held her breath and dunked her face into the multi-color-toned river. Images swirled before her mind's eye in a rather confusing way. Startled and caught off guard by the involuntary thought, Jewel stumbled back onto her rear. "...Pirates?" She thought she had seen an image of herself on a ship, with other ponies she had never met before. "This is your sight.. your new power," The ghostly white unicorn now at her side said quietly. " It will get easier as you grow accustomed to the visions" A sudden realization came over the pegasus. She was now able to see the future, and if this was so... "Danger isn't coming to Ponyville," Jewel said slowly, turning to glance at the unicorn, "...I'm going to the danger." www.deviantart.com/view/16942720/ (symbol)

(con. from Ponyvile, sorta in a rush)
The white stallion bounded through the outer edges, his destination Rainbow River. His mind was heavy with the earlier events, and the new found knowledge (plus additional worry) that went along with it. He had quite the sticky situation on his hooves.
Turning his head to give his one eye the chance to scope the area, Peri managed to spot the swimming form of Jewel nearby. "Hey! Sorry to keep you waiting up for me!" He came bounding over, a relieved, yet slightly agitated look, on his face.

The pegasus slowly looked up at Peri, her purple eyes bright, penetrating, with a hint of a glow inside the irises. A new symbol, etched in a dark purple, rested where a unicorn's horn would root. Seeing the actor, her beloved, brought about a pang of realization deep in the mare's chest.
She'd have to leave him. Whatever she'd gotten herself into, wherever she was going to go, chances were likely that he couldn't follow. She somehow knew this more than speculated it. Jewel had found love once again, and now was going have to leave it? How could she explain this to Peri? What could she say?
Nothing. Jewel couldn't find words that would make it off of her lips. Closing her eyes, she broke Peri's gaze and turned to look at the River, the sky.. anything but those blue eyes.

(lol, blue eye ^_~ the other's fake. heh heh.)
Peri Winkle's mind still twirled with the affects of Breezie's accident, but the seemed to wash further away to the back of his mind the closer he approached Jewel. He was just perfectly content near her, and the world seemed to vanish in her presence. It was the same lulling security he felt that night before the big battle of the gods. And it was a nice feeling.
As he came nearer the edge of the river, he pushed his body faster, and in a disply of stallion beauty, he leapt into the air and performed none other than a cannon ball. The actor swam to the surface before swimming up towards his ond love. As he neared, he began to notice the strange new addition to her all ready lovely face.
"Darn it. I leave you alone for an hour and you all ready got someone elses Cutie Mark tattooed to your head.," he laughed.

Jewel watched in admiration as Peri showed off, noting the way the sun made his white coat shine and defined his muscles. Oh, how she loved him..
"Darn it. I leave you alone for an hour and you all ready got someone elses Cutie Mark tattooed to your head.,"
"I didn't do it," She said quietly, rubbing the spot with her foreleg briefly. "The.. it.." The mare sighed, moving closer to Peri at the edge of the bank. Still not knowing what to say, she buried her face in his damp chest.

"Oh h-hey?," he asked, suddenly taken aback by Jewel's unusual reserved behavior. "Hey, you gonna be ok?"
He looked down at her a moment and touched one hoof to her back, not wanting to embrace her for fear it would hinder her floating/swimming abilities. Peri turned his head levelly, trying to see what perhaps Jewel had referred to as 'it'. Seeing nothing unusual aside her behavior, Peri began to guide her towards and up the bank to land.
Once safely from water, he wrapped a hoof around her and kissed her tenderly atop her head, over her new found insignia. The white stallion was uncertain how, or even if Jewel realized herself what had happened, but he wouldn't force it out of her. When she was ready to talk about it, he'd be there all ears.

The mare nuzzled her mate's neck, then leaned up to kiss him passionately. If nothing else, that was the feeling she wanted most right then, the one that gave her love and comfort.
"I was sitting here, on one of those rocks," She said, motioning toward the big flat rocks a short distance away. "Then, I don't know, it was just.. in me," She continued, "It was the strangest feeling, like I was filled with this light, but I could feel it. Then I heard this voice, it was part of the Rainbow. It asked me to.. to fight. I accepted. Then, suddenly, I got this mark stamped on my head.." She trailed off, trying to explain her newfound powers.
"I went to drink, and when I touched the water, I saw this ship with.. with pirates on it, in my mind's eye. They were sailing through a storm, and I couldn't hear their voices.."

Peri's brows furrowed in deep thought. The Rainbow...had seen Jewel? No, had chosen Jewel. The Rainbow hadn't come to Ponyville since...well, since the Dark Rainbow. Usually its forces focused primarily around Dream Valley and it's older ways...for it to come clear out here again. That was a problem.
He squeezed his embrace around her in a display of affection and comfort. "Are you sure that's what you'd seen? I mean, it's obviously some form of vision sent by the Rainbow, but....I'm not sure of any waters near by..."
The actor contemplated a moment. His home peninsula far off to the coast had better luck of seeing pirates than Ponyville. And Peri knew his mother would tell him of such things of pirates were in their sea ports. However....
"There is a port in Dream Valley...pirates wouldn't usually dock there, would they? Are the channels into Dream Valley large enough for pirate ships?," he seemed skeptical.

"I don't think it was near here," She replied, trying to remember what she had seen. They were in the middle of the sea, with no shorelines visible. And was that..? No, it couldn't have been. Roux was somewhere far off by now. Why would he be on a ship with her? And Kail?
"Peri," She said, trying to get his attention back on the main point, "I was on the ship."
